Help - Picture Rotation

Hi - collective group help required with an annoying problem when adding pictures to a post. When I add from the picture library on my iPad, some pictures are rotated from the format they are in the photo library - interestingly it’s not all. My last post here is a good example: SAKO S20??? - the last 2 pictures were rotated on inserting the post. I can stop this by writing the post on the iPad and then editing on my phone and adding the same pictures from there and they are not rotated. Does anyone know what I have to do to correct this on the iPad please?

TIA

The phone knows which way up it was taken by way of an inclinometer and that may be different from the picture itself which has a built in way up (ie iPhone is volume switches on the bottom)… then when the image is resized by the phone or by server at this end that link is broken.

The only way I know to do it on the iPhone is to rotate the picture half way, save, rotate the rest of the way, save. Now it’s forgotten which way you took it and only has the built in ‘this side is up’. Then upload.

I’ve rotated for you. 😉

Many thanks but it’s a regular issue that I would love to know how to solve do when I post if anyone has any advice?

Make a album and just tweak the picture a bit with the crop facility rotate how you need it and save.
I have a album for this so will put say 4 pictures in, once the first one is loaded the lap top goes to that album and I load the rest one at a time.

move them to a different album add the changes and put them back, had this a few times It is like when you have looked for a link on google and then it is highlighted in a different colour

Also the difference could be save to album/move to album. it could be defaulting to the upside down pictures...

With the iPad l think it’s a case of which way you use it to photograph the subject, a matter of orientation.
If l use my iPad in portrait and save to photo library the moment l reuse them they rotate on download.
Now l only use the iPad in landscape orientation and haven’t suffered any rotation since then……..it works for me.

Thanks - i don’t use the iPad to take pictures, pictures are taken on my iPhone and shared across my Apple devices via iCloud. The issue only happy when I select them off the shared photo library on the iPad. In other posts where this has happened, if I insert them as an edit to the post on my iPhone and select the pictures from the photon library on the iPhone, they don’t rotate. Unfortunately, that means I have to post using 2 devices as typing on my phone as the cut down site on the iPhone is not as good as the iPad - all the menus for example in the posting box to add text eff3cts, links, etc are not available. Hence I routinely post via my iPad or pc. Frustrating………

I have a few videos airdropped to me by my son of various aspects of the Stoat, siblings playing with sheep wool (very early morning), winter stoat in ermine, stunning, but l would have to upload them onto YouTube (so I’m told) to be able to download them attached to a post on here …….can l be bothered…..no….. technology is not my forte……

l feel your frustration, but I’m happy to be a Luddite !

Thanks FH - I have a You Tube account to get over the video posting issue so that I can post as a link as others have suggested to you. It's also a faff but I suspect posting video by a link is to cut down on site storage given videos are much larger than pictures and, given site overheads, I understand that. This picture rotation issue is a PITA meaning that I effectively have to edit every post I make when I choose to upload pictures. I'm more tech savvy than many but this apparantly random rotation is really bringing out the OCD in me - I hate reading other's poorly spelt or crafted posts and I'm guilty of doing that to others with some of my pictures :banghead:

They are all there I think. You access them via the three dots. There a three lots of three dots across the banner on my iPhone. I think the three dots indicate “more” options.

Hi Alan. When I follow the 3 dots on my iphone, it opens up the sub-menus you have shown above but they are all "greyed-out" and cannot be selected.

I (think) I can tell you why that is....the extreme right hand group of three dots has a pair of square brackets...that is the toggle switch for BB code. Click that and all the others will become available.

I have experienced the rotation issue when posting images from a Mac laptop rather than iPad...and I was waiting to see if anybody had a definitive cure...but I think I have ended up going back to Photos on the PowerBook and simply opening the image to edit, and then saving it again...I might have rotated it left and then back right before saving if it continued to misbehave...and then of course remembering to upload the newly saved version and deleting the earlier one from the SD posting box!
