We have been offered a great deal to stock Hikmicro, at present we have mainly pulsar unitsand a couple of cheap spotters, having been burn,t by the likes of Burris, pard and one other make, the boss is dubious , what are people’s opinions on the quality compared to pulsar, we only really stock thermal, not night vision.

As a customer rather than a dealer I have the Gryphon GL50 with LFR and to be fair its been really good the picture is really great and is in a different league to my old Pulsar XQ30V.
Also for aftersales I found Elite Optical the importers to be very helpful. The unit developed an issue with the LFR and as I got it via a bit of a convoluted process I was a bit unsure of how to do the warranty but Simon at Elite Optical helped me out directly and it got a full repair on the LFR plus a firmware update within a few weeks. Since then its been flawless.

HIK are the world's largest manufacturer of cctv systems so have huge resources when it comes to sensors, lenses, electronics, software and all the techy bits typically needed for NV and thermal kit
In the UK, HIK and Pulsar are the two leading brands in the night vision and thermal market
HIK price their products pretty aggressively which is good for buyers but maybe not so good for sellers since their margins will be lower
In the UK, to the best of my knowledge, their back up and warranty has thus far proved very good with very few, if any complaints about poor service
The early HIK thermal units did not compare well against Pulsar both in terms of performance and build quality, but in the current range of models hold their own against equivalent Pulsar models and in some cases are better (and in some cases worse)
HIK have a wider range of products with more entry level products which are good for short range work and also simply for getting people into thermal imaging
The image presentation on HIK thermals is significantly different from all Pulsar models
If you set up a HIK thermal spotter and an equivalent Pulsar thermal spotter looking at the same scene/target /animal, the contrast on the HIK will be higher, but details of the animal you are looking at will be more clearly defined in the Pulsar image.
The Pulsar image will have lower contrast and as is the case with all Pulsars, there is always the sensation of looking at the target through a fine mesh curtain.
That doesn't happen with any of the HIK models
What tends to happen is that people who are new to thermal imaging are attracted by the brighter and higher contrast images produce by the HIKs, whilst existing Pulsar thermal users tend to stick with what they know and buy another Pulsar.
I don't know anything about business conditions in NZ, but I think you'd be missing a trick if you did not stock HIK thermal products
You say that you don't stock night vision - get your hands on a HIK Alpex A50 and take it out at dusk after even the best Swarovski scope and binoculars have given up for lack of light - it may change your mind 🙂

As a retailer you wont have any issue with them, they are good to deal with and warranty.

My concern as a retailer in regard to any product/brand as I'm acutely aware of changes in products and sales and this is with all distributors and manufacturers , changes to model lines or slower moving products resulting in a stream of sales drops IMO damage a brand, damage retailer and customer confidence in a brand from products they have recently purchased and damage future new product lines being released, impacting sales. For any manufacturer believe or not the UK is one of the most difficult markets currently and pricing is low in comparison to equivalent products across the globe in other countries..

If you don't even have any stock currently, test the water first without going full bore into a bulk buy, not moving the stock and then new products coming down the conveyor line as with anything else. Dip your toe in the water and see if you have any interest and what the demand is like..

If your Boss is dubious like you say after being burned then rightly so, he will be cautious. I'd say get some stock and go for it, just don't go all Brewsters Millions and blank cheque

The only thing i don't like about the HIK is having to charge the whole unit instead of removable battery. Who has a socket in their gun safe

You don't need a power socket in your gun cabinet.
You buy a 20000mah powerbank, charge it up, and when needed connect it to your scope via the USB port and put the gun and the powerbank in the gun cabinet.
The scope battery gets charged by the powerbank and the next time you take the gun out of the cabinet, the scope is fully charged and ready to go.
While you are out, the power bank can be recharged and ready to connect to the scope when you come back
Simples 🙂

Thanks for the advice, the hikmicro offers us greater margins over pulsar, the outlay on the equipment is not the problem it’s being stuck with a product , we probably will try a few spotters to start with.
