HMIC firearms licencing survey

The purpose of this survey is to conduct another survey to just keep asking the same questions until we get the answers we are looking for. Decisions have been made and we just need to be seen as doing something to ask around. How often does a survey or consultation lead to what the majority wanted or recommend?

Having a centralised function to process all firearms applications in a digital format with a single database would allow for a consistent approach and possibly a plastic card with a chip kind of FAC/ SGC that can be used to valdiate the ID of the person and the firearms. SGs, pistols etc they hold. Variations, renewals etc could be done online with no need to issue a new card, unless lost/ damaged. Can have a PIN like credit card for RFDs to validate the ID of the person holding the card for any purchase/ sale. For private sales, an online form can be submitted with details of both people to gurantee an immediate transfer or can be managed via a QR code. Also online validation of the documents could be done without having to post it to someone or taking photocopies.

Cost saving on postage, forms lost, phone calls, delays, extensions, printing, different standards/ recommendations should be worth it. A lot of these could be stramlined to make it efficient and painfree. Only if someone had the will.
Sod ‘online’ everything.

It’s not number of lines as such, it was the total number of characters that was key.

I ended reducing to a single sentence & then still having to reduce the number of characters by using shorter words.

What a faff for something that should have been sorted out before releasing the survey.
Apologies, you were entirely correct. I halved the first box and considerably shortened the second and it worked :thumb: C*^p survey!

I have read the comments with interest. BASC also got the survey yesterday. More on that next week. There is a survey for cert holders and another for RFDs. The surveys are part of a HMICFRS inspection of the firearms licensing system in England and Wales. There are other aspects to this including police force inspections and at a recent PCC/CC Herts police accountability meeting the CC said they were one of the forces being inspected.

Terms of reference for the HMICFRS inspection

Note that, as I have found out, if you haven't processed a grant, variation or renewal within the last two years it says "Thank You" and kicks you out with the words "You Have Now Completed The Survey".
If you follow the original link from a different browser you should be able to get through to another go at it. (And give you the email address again.)

Note: If you "save" the survey prior to completion as it allows for, its most likely the Home Office link sent to your email will go to the SPAM folder.

If the survey is deemed to be inadequate or the desired outcomes weighted, it would be an idea to have our shooting organisations raise this with the survey originators.
You can’t even fill it in - as it’s for the rest of the U.K. and not scotland….

The Historical Breechloading Small Arms Association and the British Shooting Sports Council are taking matters up with the organisation that instigated the survey.

That's interesting - which organisation was it? The replacement for ACPO, perhaps?
Edit: Sorry - should have paid more attention: looks like it's the Inspectorate of Constabularies.

The HMICFR page linked to from the BASC new page, is invalid.
There is a message on there saying:
"The access to the survey via this link is no longer active. A new link will be shared with you by your firearms organisation shortly. Please keep an eye on your inbox for this update."

Not sure how long that has been there?

I see BASC have circulated a new link.
The original was being hijacked by non shooters apparently.

Assume the other orgs will do similar.

Fortunately my renewal was this year but 100 words in the negative experience box was way too short!

Firearms Licensing Survey Update

Dear NRA Member,

Further to our email of November 24th informing you of HMICRS's survey.

Firstly we understand and share your frustration of the limitations of the survey. For those who have not yet completed the survey you may be aware that it is currently closed.

HMICFRS have been given feedback that the licensee survey can only be completed by licence holders in England & Wales who have attempted to apply, renew, or vary an FAC in the past 2 years, and that the dialogue boxes were restricted to 100 characters.

The survey is currently offline and we understand that a new link will be sent out. Once we receive it we will again share with you all. We are not in a position to know if any amendments will be made.

We do share your frustration but would kindly ask that any feedback or comments be directed to HMICFRS via email - HMICFRSsensitiveresearch@hmicfrs.gov.uk

With kind regards
