Holiday in FOD

My wife has booked a short break for the family in Coleford and I was wondering what are the chances of seeing wild boar.
We are coming down in August so I can appreciate the undergrowth will be up but are there any hot spots we are likely to find any.

We saw Boar at Cannop ponds , there are nice parking and BBQ areas there. We stayed till dark and saw some but beware they lock the gate at 10 and we got locked in! Luckily I was driving a Land Cruiser and it required a sh*t or bust bit of off roading to get out or we would have had to stay the night there.

Take thermal with you, if you don't have some borrow it . It will improve your chances a hell of a lot. You can then just cruise around of an evening and spot them.

Go to the Speech house hotel, not far from Coleford/Cinderford area, late evening there all along the road,
you will be amazed how many there are if you have a Thermal spotter

Forgot to say if you fancy a breakfast on the way down, try the Seven & wye Smokery at Chaxhill, near Westbury-on -seven,
Absolutely fantastic place.

Four days in and not a sighting yet. Quite abit of rooting on walks and seen a lot of fallow but no boar.
I've been out with the thermal around Coleford and speech house and going to try callop lakes this evening.
Talking to a couple of locals and they said they haven't seen many at all recently, maybe the fc have culled hard in this area.
Fingers crossed for tonight!.

Success! Went to callop ponds, plenty of ground turned over in the car park so was hopeful. At last light spotted a sow with four piglets with the thermal which I could just about see with the bins. Then a minute later a much bigger boar followed the same line as the sow. Big smile on my face now, over the moon.
