Hornady CX in 270

As with Deerkeeper2 above, they are my go-to fodder for my 7mm08 (factory loaded superformance). For me accuracy has been good and terminal ballistics has been OK. On chest shot roe deer they really do perform better when hitting some substantial bone on the way in. Any that enter without bone contact have poor deformation and apparent energy deposition and result in a running deer (I've had 20-75m). I have noticed it less on Fallow, being bigger (not used on other species)

Which weight of bullet do you use in your 7mm08 and where the shots typically taken Inside a given distance?
I am just trying to understand how the SD might have been vs it's terminal velocity ?

I am using the 139gn 7mm CX. All the shots of concern would have been 70m-180m. There are two Roe bucks which stick in my mind from this spring - one was at 70m, chest shot just above the heart which ran through a hedge and 75m into the next field which was long grass and the other was 120m which ran 60m through a thick herbal lay. Both of which would have taken me hours to find if it weren't for the dog!

I have also found a less significant initial reaction to the shot which always sows a seed of doubt and also a different contact sound to lead (I was using 139gn SSTs prior). Having said that they have all resulted in dead deer and I am still using them so I guess that says something!

139gr would be moving pretty slow from the average stalking length barrel ?

139gr would be moving pretty slow from the average stalking length barrel ?

2910fps mv according to Hornady from a 24", my 85 has a 22.4" barrel. Not chrono'd it but ballistics calcs are bob on using that mv
