How could you not like the HMR

Brilliant calibre for those rabbits our of reach of the 22lr. Certainly converted a lot of 22lr shooter's, but as with everything, the price of ammo is on the rise.
Yerr, that’s why I haven’t been using mine so much, it’s cheaper to reload for my .22 hornet.

I’ve never had a problem with the noise of the HMR, mainly because I tend to take things at further distances, these were a day apart, I’d of never got these numbers if I was using the.22 👍

I have a few of them. Only used on paper so far, as there are bugger all rabbits around here at the mo. But it's an interesting round.
I even picked up a 17HM2 recently, just to tat with. But not tried buying ammunition yet. (It seems to have gained popularity and the manufacturers are producing it again.)

I missed the boat with hm2 and always wished I had tried one. I can see that it would very useful indeed and safer!

I bought a second hand CZ 455 in 17HMR a few years ago. A look in my spent cases box revealed about 1 in 10 split along the case neck. Then I bought a new barrel and since then the number has dropped to around 1 in 25 or 30. I've therefore concluded that the problem has more to do with the machining of the chamber than problems with ammo manufacture, although its probably a bit of both.
Hmmm. This was very much Steve Hornady’s rather robust line a few years ago when interviewed about his hmr cases splitting - “nothing wrong with our ammo - the problem is your guns”.
Silly old FB - imagine me thinking all rifles both centre and rimfire had chambers cut to a common standard which would accept all variations of manufacturers produce give or take a few thou here and there…….

Okay, I rate my 17HMR highly, it's my go-to rifle. Ruger RPR with a hauksen mod and like others have said, I find rabbits don't scatter if shot far enough away, they appeared more confused than spooked. But dare I suggest if you fancy a 17HMR that's even flatter shooting with less wind drift and more raw sex appeal, maybe take a walk on the wild side with 17WSM. There, I've said it. But not in earshot of my HMR.

I had one stuck up the pipe not long after getting my first HMR ( browning T bolt ) I had only had it a few weeks and just cycled the bolt, something said to me “ that didn’t sound right “ so I unloaded it and checked, round stuck in barrel ☹️ that could of been messy, started checking rounds and found a few split but now I haven’t found a split one for a long time

Think the 17 HMR is a great round , Bit loud for when you are shooting next to the houses But once you are doing the job dont think they will mind 🤙

I was out yesterday with the 17 and a 12g. I've not used a 12g for ages, I've never had the need. Boy, am I rusty, missed everything, shooting well behind or in front. It surprised me how much my skills have faded since I switched to a rifle.

I must say i have shot a rabbit ad he went down and the rabbit sitting next to him did not move so i got him as well so that must be saying something
