20ppc
No mate, not long bought the .20 vartarg. 20ppc is up in Edinburgh rifles. Saw it other day when I picked up moderator.Have you had this one as well?
looking at selling my Sauer 202 in .243 if your interested, comes with 3 and 5 shot mags? The Sauer 202 should feed the 20 Tac if I ever find a 222/223 one with a couple of mags. Not looking too hopeful though.
The alternative is a 20-250. my rifle builder has tested 22-250 in the various mags available and it fed ok. His 243 fed from the longer mags (220 swift to 30-06) as well as the shorter (blocked out) 22-250/243 mag. So as far as we can tell it should work ok. The idea is to use either a barrel adapter or make one from an old barrel to fit the six lug bolt. as I already have two actions (three barrels) hence looking at a 20 cal that would fit.
I really like the Sako but I am looking to get down to a couple of actions with barrels/bolts (mags if necessary) to suit various quarry. If all else fails then I would just re-barrel the Sako probably stick with Tac as changing dies etc seems pointless as I have everything I need for it including forming brass. If I was starting from scratch Practical would definitely by the way I'd go.
I have had problems with my 50gn loads when I ran out of 10X, Vhit powders just wouldn't give me the same speed without primer issues or pressure signs. Even Wild Boar (allegedly the same powder) gave the same issues.
However I got some more 10X so I will be loading some 50's up again. They work very well for those crows that think they're out of range. I had pretty much the same with my 243 it was my rifle of choice for foxes, especially if it was on the windy side. The Tac soon took its place as my go to, I parted with the 243 completely when I got chance of the Sauer.
I have a little bit left, but not enough to justify working up a load, unfortunately it's one of the powders we can't get anymore. I did get good speed with the few I tried pre ban, but didn't follow up with testing, iirc it was around the time REACH came in and spoiled the choice of powders.
Thanks but now sorted. I’ll be honest that it is one of two cartridges that I don’t quite follow why Sauer did it the way they did. You may or may not be aware that the 22-250 and 243 are three lug bolt and .473” bolt face. All the larger cartridges are six lug. My rifle building friend put a 243 barrel into a six lug adapter, which is what I would go with. I have a tired 270 barrel that might be a donor for something else, 20-250 maybe. I have just acquired a .223 so we’re looking at if the barrel from my Sako 75 20 Tac will fit (without needing a reamer) into a suitable donor (shot out/knackered) barrel. That gets me nearer the plan to have all CF cartridges chambered in a 202 barrel.looking at selling my Sauer 202 in .243 if your interested, comes with 3 and 5 shot mags?

My 20 Tac is a 10" twist so will shoot the Berger 50gn very well out to a tested 600yds. However I have 32 and 39 Blitz kings, 32 and 40 Vmax, an odd 40 and part box of 55 Berger (don't stabilise though, probably why there's a part box) plus some unknown 32 hollow points. Not that theres a massive choice but what's your favourite bullets for your twentys...fifty little green rockets ready for work
