Hopefully this one can be pinned as I am sure it’s in the forum however I’m struggling to find it (min 4 letters search, does not help)
Shot a nice (not great) muntjac and would like advice:
1. How to prepare trophy?
2. How to send to a measurer?
Or 3. Do I hand deliver to a measurer?
4. Is it worth it if tines smaller than
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated….

Boil and clean properly

Hand deliver if you can, or boxed up, well wrapped with padding and post.

Tine measurements are largely irrelevant in determining medals, yes they score but if span/length/diameter of main beam is good it can compensate for any missing brow tines

I have just emailed one of the assessors from West Sussex and it was all pretty simple.

Go on the CIC UK web page, it'll show you the rough criteria for your chosen species and a list of assessors. Contact your chosen assessor and ask what they require.

I was basically told, Package it well with plenty of padding to protect the skull and stop antlers poking out the box. Put your contact details in the package and let them know it's on its way. Once measured you pay the £35 if it scores a medal and any extra postage costs to return and it come back to you.

Edit. I could have hand delivered and he was more than happy with that but due to distance it would be much cheaper and quicker to post it.

Cost for a medal muntjac is £30. On CICs Web site. It is well worth taking your trophy to be measured if you have contact the assessor beforehand and organized a time he may be able to do it for you while you wait and you will learn a lot from watching him do this. I measure a lot of my own muntjac heads and only take them to be assessed when I know they are of medal quality I prefer not to waste peoples time if I can help it.

Have just had a Muntjac measured for a friend of mine, I did the measurements myself first using the info on their website & once sure it was going to be over the threshold I dropped it off to my local assessor who measured it properly & I then went & paid the fee & collected the trophy along with the medal & certificate.

I send them a photo before assuming it is a medal (golds at least) and you need to leave for a 30 days before submitting it - I didn't see that mentioned above.
Although you can post them, if you can, it's an interesting experience to take them along and see it done in real time.
