Howa 1500 trigger not fully resetting

I have a new Howa 1500. It has the 2-stage HACT trigger. When I cycle the bolt the trigger doesn't always fully reset. At least that's what it feels like. The symptom is that the trigger feels like it has no first stage but a very long and grindy break. It doesn't happen on every shot. If I apply and then release the safety starting in this state, the trigger then returns to normal with a working first stage.

Any ideas?

Sear engagement, take back to the shop since it's new!

Agreed with above. It’s a new rifle. It’s in warranty. Trigger issues of any sort are a major safety issue. Get it back to the shop ASAP. Don’t mess with it yourself. Don’t even remove the stock.

Has the issue been resolved?

Has the issue been resolved?
Not really.

I had a fiddle last night. It did it again on the first dry-fire but the didn't do it again in 50 attempts.

So I took the bolt out and put pressure on the sear with a screwdriver and pulled the trigger. I could sometimes reproduce it like that - but I didn't get to the point where I understand what's going on.

It's easy to say "just take it back to the shop" but with an intermittent issue like this it's hard to convince anyone that there's really a problem and that's why I'd rather try and get to the bottom of it myself. If I understand the cause then I will either know how to fix it, or know how to demonstrate it to the dealer in order to get them to fix it.

The rifle has had around 150 rounds through it, if that's helpful.

There are two common causes of issues with the HACT . The first is the trigger unit becoming loose , commonly this results in an unsafe trigger giving a gritty feel and allowing the trigger to be pulled even with the safety applied, on occasions this will allow the rifle to fire whilst operating the safety. The other is the result of the trigger pull being lightened past its design weight at that point the safety stops working altogether .
If the trigger screw antitamper thread lock is still in place ,the unit is nipped up correctly then I'm afraid I'm with the others and it would be back to the shop . At the moment that rifle is unserviceable as you can't trust its safety .

If the rifle is brand new and it hasn’t been messed with then take it back

I have had two howa trigger units replaced for customers in the last three years due to failure to reset on cycling bolt
