Here as soon as the clocks change, that’s when the phone starts to ring, all night work I only ever did 2 calls in the day in the years that I did it!

To divert this rabbit hole even further and make it a full warren, what happens to the carcass? Do they expect you to dispose of it? Does someone else? Are you expected to leave it? It always stuck me that our roads are littered with deer and other animals but most other countries I’ve been to arnt!

In answer to your question it really depends on where the animal is laying,
If it’s on local council road or verge they will come and pick it up if it’s on a major road like the A34, A303, M3 its Highways.
I can only tell you what happens in my experience, local councils in my area are very good and do clear up using an app or quick phone call, the one I helped in the playground last week I did take away and put out for the kites and buzzards because of where it was and I have the ground to do so.

A lot of these incidents are by their nature involving road traffic accidents where the police are called by the public,the police then call a DMQ trained and qualified volunteer (who is the trained HAD expert as per the DMQ course)as that is a requirement of being selected to take part, who attends to deal with the deer in question, so with no training having been given to the volunteer via the DMQ course on dealing with horses,cattle,sheep,dogs,cats or any other species, bearing in mind say a horse or dog may well have a distressed owner with it, are volunteers ever asked to deal with species that maybe they’ve had no training on in terms of biology as in position of the brain,spinal chord or vital organs,shot placement or shot reaction?
