Hydrostatic shock

So, the plot thickens....
The stalker (OP) was being stalked! Someone else saw where the deer fell, and attempted to make off with it while the OP's back was turned. They'd even made an initial incision and started the gralloch. But the OP returned from his brief recce around the corner, and the knife-wielding would-be carcass thief made off empty handed, leaving this mysterious wound.

A likely story.
I don't think.
You been on the cider again 🤣

Not aware of any barbed wire, lots of branches and debris under foot in the wood. Should have had a better look around but when the shock option was mentioned I was keen to get it back to the chiller and opened up to see inside. I’m not making a case for it being hydrostatic shock and I’m quite happy if it’s injury or animal , we will never know, but I do know that neither I nor my chum took a knife to the belly of the deer before the photo was taken.
