Killing is not on the list but is part of one aspect of shooting

Got my slaughtered license at eighteen (50) years ago for cattle and sheep. Asked my mentor did he like the killing, he said only when he did it correctly. ( part two to follow)

If you hate the killing part you wouldnt do it. Why cant people be honest with themselves instead of being PC. I enjoy the pursuit of game/vermin more than the actual shot but I would never say I don't enjoy it as I do ..but that's me just being honest.

If you dont enjoy your sport it's time to pack in and go playing golf or train spotting.😁
This is my problem with the fox hunting set - if it is not about the killing...but they catch whilst on a "trail" hunt. I individually could do more to affect the fox population in an area by myself without the pomp and circumstance.

Admit you like killing foxes whilst on your steed (and doing so through legal loopholes) and stop being negative about guys with rifle that do the job efficiently.

I think I agree with you, though one point I'd like to raise;

Bloodsports are not all-encompassing of hunting and fishing - Hunting and fishing are not necessarily a bloodsport although some forms of hunting and fishing are such as coursing, fox hunting etc. I'm wary of lumping in deer stalking and rabbit hunting with badger baiting and cockfighting
All hunting and fishing are blood sports, same as any other that involves killing or injuring animals…..

Mounted packs and meets, we’re also a social event and tradition where many skill sets were involved, the killing of a fox been a very small part, but a happy ending for all but charles was desirable.

It (“killing”) may not figure in your list of why you like shooting but it must however be elevated to the number one position of consequences of you chosen pastime.

I’m all for the argument that suggests one may be a million miles from that of revelling in the blood🩸& gore that is so often a part of taking a life, but this cannot be wholly separated from what it is to hunt and specifically how this desire is informed by some very basic traits of the human condition.

Think that about covers it in one

With hunting with dogs of any sort ,the hunt for any true dogman is the reason they are there .A catch being the culmination of fit and experienced dogs and very much a biproduct .Many good terriermen I’ve known have released quarry after a dig ,it’s the work shown by the little warriors that matter .
Mounted packs have always had a conflict between saying they are there to control whilst harbouring and actively promoting fox in their country .One action contradicts the other .

Few white lies and tally ho,

The hunting lot in 2002 on the march, were quite prepared to hang out any shooters out to dry. Shame on the lot of them. I was on the march and to support them, never again.
Have been told by said group that lamping foxes is cruel and leaves wounded animals to die - this was said with a straight face knowing that I shot (and recovered) more foxes in a year than they "accidently" killed. Do the right thing and admit you like the kill.

can only say having marched to protest against the ban, there are other forms of hunting with dogs or hounds apart from mounted packs.
Fully support in principal hunting with dogs and hounds but must say the majority of people hunting on horse back I have encountered from two separate packs have been arrogant a holes of the highest order, whom I would not urinate on if on fire, result of attitude from some landowners simply not welcome!
Not hunting, nor hounds just some of the people involved and attitude, but yes I support hunting👍🙂

Love some driven foxes in the wilds of Wales.

Lord Prescot at the last waterloo cup stateded we will be be back (2004) the coursing club UK
Tried to put conditions on the restrictions it didn't work. In Ireland they said they would muzzle
Coursing dogs, my understanding is they can still course in Ireland

Have respect and a love and understanding of your chosen quarry and you are moving in the direction you should be going. Look at indigenous tribes around the world and their interaction with the animals they hunt, nearly always for food. The San people said a prayer over their quarry as it was dying to calm it before it gave up the ghost, maybe to calm it before death so the meat was more palatable, running down an antelope for a few miles must have got the adrenaline pumping. We have to keep in touch with why we do what we do, it goes right back to putting food on the table!
