Let’s cut the men from the boys, if the powers that be did away with the close season would you?

Like I said in a previous post, no one seem to care about the humble muntjac!

Yes or no?
Yes, currently, my focus is culling Sika & Fallow for the landowners who were kind enough to grant me permission. For that reason where possible I target the hinds and does. I have a number of S42's for culling deer out of the normal season due to the damages they're doing to crops, plantations and silage. I have no interest in trophy hunting. My limitation is being able to dispose of the meat effectively. Venison is treated here by many people as exotic and they are wary of using it. I'm fortunate in that I have eastern european's living locally and they really appreciate venison so it's becoming a little easier. Here in the RoI we have initiated Deer Management Units (DMU), which are trying to co-ordinate the culling of deer to specifically reduce their numbers. It'll be interesting by the end of this season to see if there is any sign of positive impact. We'll probably need about five years to have sufficient reliable data.

I have, yes. I have also responded to the poll.
I’d venture that not all of the 39900 that haven’t responded to the poll have been engaged with this thread?
I venture that if the UK % of the 39900 actually shoot deer from SD then the write up section would out strip the sales section by a country mile and there would not be a deer problem.

Again, maybe I did post a write up or 2 in my early days on here (really can’t remember). I shoot quite a few deer per year but never feel the need (and I’m too lazy) to post a write up.

Just because people aren’t posting about it doesn’t mean they’re not doing it. In fact I know a few on here who shoot way more deer than me and they have never posted a write up?

It's getting too much like social media with all the attention seeking posts.

If I didn't sell a few things here I'd delete my account and be better off for it.
I enjoy your posts and your quad stick so don't go. The thing is the "weirdos" change depending on the topic and how you feel about it. There are nameless people on here who mostly annoy me but then they go and post stuff that is really sensible. So I "like" it. Just don't open threads that raise your blood pressure!

David.

PS It is social media! ;)

Well said, it's definitely about just engaging with the positive and uplifting parts and trying to ignore the rest 👌

As mentioned we need balance in the force so keep on posting.

Overall, despite a load of tosh at times (I appreciate I spout some nonsense), there are some good posts, good info and healthy banter to be had.

Perhaps a few of the weirdest weirdos, such as you and I, ought to be filtered off into separate section of our own, leaving everyone else to get on with some sensible discussion?

(I've already suggested having a separate, private sub-forum, specifically for those who shoot unmoderated .270s, with special priority status being given to the ones with beards, sandals and Tilley hats).

I would be happy to bet that anyone posting write ups about the deer they have shot probably arnt shooting that many.
Funny you should say that.
I posted quite detailed write-ups of my first few, which were very well received on here.
However, the more deer I shoot the less inclined I am to write about it.
Maybe time to change that, next time I have a particularly memorable outing.

I would say that the reason the sales is out stripping the write up's is people are selling kit to fund trips out with Guides resulting in only if they are lucky to be put on one worth the outing fee or a "oh well book again" :coat:

I think you are wrong, people just enjoy swapping kit. Many of my clients have more expensive kit than I do despite the fact I’m out every day and they maybe go out once a month. Part of the hobby for them is having nice kit that they get to use in their time off, and good for them! If they work hard why shouldn’t they get to buy nice things to enjoy in their time off whether it’s nessasary or not?! Also, there may be guides like that, but there are plenty of good ones out there too!
