Is .22lr high velocity less prone to ricochet?

Hi all - I am thinking of trying something other than .22lr subs (I currently use Eley subs in my CZ455) for rabbits basically due to ricochet risk (not had a bad experience - yet- and am v selective about when I will take a shot but have heard the occasional whizzer and it un nerves me, especially as you can never tell where a stone might be lurking in the dirt). I was immediately thinking HMR (which would require a variation) but then read somewhere that .22lr high velocity rounds are supposedly less prone to ricochet; is that people 's experience (or am I better off just getting an HMR)?

Cheers

Have you tried the cci sub sonic segmented?
The idea is 3 section of lead, loosely bonded to form what looks like a standard 22 bullet, but they break up on contact.
Thus greatly reduces ricochet risk given they break up.
I've used them on rabbits and they really do break up.

Ps. I don't believe the 22lr hv theory.

Thanks for the responses. My rifle didn't like the cci segmenteds unfortunately. I have fac air but use it during the day.

.22 HV still has the risk of ricochet and in my experience ,less accuracy. As has been said .17 hmr if noise is not a factor, or failing that. .22/.25 FAC air.

I remember when I first got my Hmr..15 years ago..I shot a magpie from 60 yds that was sitting on a branch with a lot thicker tree trunk directly behind as my backstop.
When I picked the dead magpie I also noticed that the round had passed straight through and not actually fragmented and there was a neat hole in the trunk directly behind!
So much for fragmenting!

CCI segmented are good but I changed due to a few boxes of different sized rounds and a odd ( 1in 500 say a flyer)
But a good round, you will get a bouncer with eley on occasions keep an eye on the ground your shooting on flint , rocks etc being a slightly slower round they a bouncing tendency which is a shame they are a very good round

I now use non toxic where I’m told to, lead anywhere else, segmented all the time slightly higher velocity but less ricochets is worth itIMG_5430.webp

All at 50yds

Is Left CCI
Middle copper hollow point
Right copper segmented
After a re zero I now only use copper segmented

CCI are reasonable on noise, the copper is the price you pay but are still good to go

Everything ricochets, it's just that you can hear it with .22 subs. Watch videos of machine guns shooting tracer. If 140 ish grain 7.62 going broadly the same speed as HMR can't push a pebble out of the way to stick itself into the ground, what chance does a 17 grain .17 have?
