Besides the registered dealers there are those that always have something to sell without being a trade dealer.

Some forums restrict classified ads to one per day and automatically delete them after 1 week. Could be an option...

If things are to be kept free, it comes at a price. Guess it will have to be either a paid subscription for all members or ads as otherwise one of the last remaining great sites may not survive. I am not a great fan of ads myself but when it's on a forum I take great pride to be part of, I am happy to put up with it. If there's a better solution, I am sure the admins are all ears.

Just to clarify this a bit more ... I think this is right.
You can screen out ANYTHING except posts in the various sections including Classifieds. You can reformat the screen displays to your hearts' content. You can eliminate pics within posts to get a pure text stream (works on JG posts beautifully ...
). All of this can be done without logging in as a Guest.To eliminate Classifieds you need to reset the Preferences within your Profile. Those changes only take effect while you’re logged on.
If you sign off and browse as a guest all the Classifieds will reappear under ‘New Posts’. Otherwise, there’s the option not to sign in and to select only the forums that interest you.
It’s a commercial site so typical of the model. At least it doesn’t enforce a Login to read the content like Facebook does. That suits me, because otherwise I wouldn’t use it.
