It really sucks being left handed!

Rubbish we are very much second class citizens. Theres 100 rifles on offer to every LH option

Most of the time we have to put up with what ever they deem to offer in LH

I wanted a Sako but didn't want blue and wood so had to go RH with a custom LH stock

But I believe the min issue here is the limited availability of LE SH rifles

On gun trader now in ANY calibre theres 118 LH rifles against 4335 RH rifles

To give a clue theres a grand total of 2 LH 308s on sale on Gun Trader today and no 6.5 / 55s
Almost up to 2K posts now which is no surprise on this.
I agree with all of this, but the supply situation is better now than when I started. Then it was only Heym, and Remington which was no choice at all.

Whenever someone admits to being cack-handed (using the pejorative label - see?) it usually follows that they’re not absolutely so. I watch for the signs. They write right-handed, or retrieve their wallet with that hand. As shooters come in varying degrees of left-handedness some can adapt to right-handed rifles. Some turn vice into a virtue by claiming that these are quicker to fire from a rest. They’re not left-handed in the sense of the word, but are hybrids or ambidextrous to some degree.

True ‘dyed-in-the- wool’ lefthanders are a different breed. In character they’re naturally stubborn (read obdurate) because the world is aligned against them. That discrimination extends to door handles, knife bevels, book bindings, eating utensils, packaging, shotgun top-levers, AND (which really ****es me off no end) the operating arm on my RCBS Rockchucker. Every device has the knob on the wrong side.

It’s a constant struggle on a minor scale which is more than irritating. It affects your mindset & hardens your attitude. It turns you into an individual who won’t compromise when it comes to rifles. My approach is that this is my hobby so sod any adjustment. For once I am having what suits me. I’m with the OP in saying why the F should he have to adapt at all?

Taking a more detailed look at the WB list out of left field:-

The first 6 on the list or custom builds aren’t a realistic option for the OP because of cost & scarcity.

Heym SR 21 & SR 30
Steyr Mannlicher Luxus, CL 2, SM 12
Sauer 202, 404
Mauser M03
Blaser R8
Antonio Zoli

Tikka T3 (5 x LH out of 19 models)
Tikka T3X (5 x LH out of 22 models)
Sako M75 (LH only in long action cals.)
Sako M85 (no LH)

Browning X-bolt (2 x LH out of 20 models- .243 only)
Browning A bolt (DISCONTINUED - 2 x LH out of 30 models - .270 only)
Savage various models (4 x LH out of 50 models)
Remington 700 (3 x LH out of 41 models)
Ruger American & 77 (4 x LH out of 16 models)

Titan 6 (1 x LH out of 7 models)
CZ (CZ557 LH in .308 & .306 only)
Zastava M70 (not imported AFAIK)

As the OP doesn’t like the American rifles in group 3 this leaves him with virtually b*gger all to choose from. He is looking at a lengthy wait for a T3X which nobody else would accept.

Check out the bolt-actions on Guntrader.UK. If this reflected the incidence of LH shooters, at least 15% of the stock of 2900 in CF should be lefthand models. The number in .243 - .300WM deer calibres up to a price cutoff of £1,000 is 23. That’s less than 1% of the total which is the real world.

I would just choose, again
22lr - CZ 452 American - Left Hand
223 - Tikka T3x Varmint Stainless - Left Hand
308 - Tikka T3x Varmint Stainless - Left hand
(Or Tikka T3x Lite Stainless if you stalk a lot)

Stupid easy.. 3 quality rifles that would last you a lifetime!! Branch out from there.

Sportsmatch Rings

Upgrade to McMillan stocks for a truly bombproof set up.

One positive thing I see with this is, I find it easy to sell my second hand left hand rifles, cos they are relatively scarce and there are many left handed shooters out there. So no problem to get rid of the old one and get a new one... On the other hand it's quite hard to get rid of standard right hand rifles as they are everywhere...

This has got interesting as I looked away briefly!

Unsurprisingly, I agree with Chasey & Sinistral on this. We’re in the same boat & to me the situation is borderline discriminaTory. I also count them as friends :-) Anyone who lists the LH options as ‘adequate’ is clearly a right hander who ignores the numbers and the fact that many of the aforementioned ‘options’ have a LONG waiting time. They’re right...look on guntrader/gunstar.

Incidentally, I am a teacher, and over the last 10 years have noticed a distinct increase in left handed kids in the classroom. I’d imagine this is down to the ridiculous practice of forcing youngsters into right-handedness against their will being stopped, among other factors. My mum even tried that with my young boy a couple of years ago! Some elements still see it as ‘wrong’. But we also have left handed scissors in every classroom. And handwriting needs for lefties are accommodated for across the board. Standard practice.

Who knows, maybe some of these kids will grow up to be shooters one day? Hope we have enough rifles for them by then! ;-)

No one else can shoot them, cos they are righties!

For most of us who shoot left handed, the key embuggerance is finding a proper fitting stock. Not so much an issue with a rifle, but hugely important with a shotgun. I have long struggled to hit ducks on the foreshore, as all my wildfowling guns have been straight or righthanded. Last year I bought a left handed Franchi Affinity. Best wildfowling returns ever. Was bringing several duck back rather than the occasional one. I also have a nice gun cast left handed - it too is deadly. Anything else - well I just miss.

I have a right handed 7x57. It’s a lovely gun, but it is just awkward to reload rapidly. It has a side trigger safety - again I have to use my right hand to take it off safe.

The real downside to being left handed is seeing all the nice rifles and shotguns- but knowing that 99% not worth bothering with. I have a sidelock that I bought really as an investment- I can shoot it well enough on clays, but in the field - well it stays at home.

Just to add another to the list of left handed rifles I see sportsman are now doing left handed
manlickers

Sadly I am looking into this now... I am right-handed, but my right eye isn't doing to well (long story, need an operation), and after trying various things the only solution seems to be to simply shoot left-handed. I tried it on a couple of rifles and I am OK with that, though an ambidextrous rifle would clearly be best - any recommendations, starting with .22?

For a lefty 22, CZ452, for an ambi' 22, why not a lever gun? I don't have one in 22, but I do have a Marlin 336, and it comes up to either shoulder perfectly naturally.

you sure? I have a 16" barrel and it is lh. Mind you it is a HMR but I'm sure they do one or did one in .22.

Interesting... does anyone know of a lever-action .22? I would like to avoid a left-handed rifle as such.

In .22LR - No CZ455 Lefthand.
Only the old CZ452 model in Lefthand (22.5” barrel only)

CZ-USA CZ 452 American - Left Hand - CZ-USA

Interestingly Edgar Bros (see FAQ below) don't recommend shortening CZ barrels as they're choked at the muzzle.

WHAT BARREL LENGTHS ARE CZ RIMFIRE RIFLES AVAILABLE IN?
Here is your answer…

This depends on the model. Lux and Standard models are 22”. American, Varmint, Style, Silhouette are 20”. These models are also available in 16”. We do not recommend the cutting down of any CZ barrel due to the fact that they are hammer forged and are actually choked at the muzzle to maximise accuracy which is one of the reasons CZ rifles are renowned for their accuracy. There is also no guarantee that the bore is actually dead centre to the outside diameter in the middle of the barrel. Shortening the barrel will also invalidate the warranty. CZ rifle barrels are hammer forged from solid billets for that particular barrel length; even the 16” barrel has a special billet for the shorter barrel. If you want a shorter barrel part ex your old rifle and get a new rifle with a new three year guarantee!

There are 50 currently listed on guntrader
These are all right-handed so confirm the point & title of this thread exactly.
