Jakele J1

What's the idea behind a straight pull and turn bolt?
According to the catalogue, … self-centering bolt head with four-locking lugs rotates 90 degrees into the barrel and provides an enormously high locking surface for maximum safety and precision.

Ohh, a cam instead of a collet type thingy.

2.6kg according to the catalogue - struggling to find a price............

I like the synthetic stocked versions 🤗
Go into the configurator, it shows the price in Euro's

If I am not mistaken ex-Blaser now doing his own thing.

Had a play with one a while back, but that safety is not for me. Too much of a hassle.
Well built gun and I'm sure it will shoot, but to me not as nice than a R8 and some others. Seems a bit of a strange combo between traditional and modern.

From what I could make out, though I could be wrong, the safety is a bit of an irrelevance as a safety feature though it does lock the bolt.
The safety is a redundant feature because although a cartridge may be loaded into the chamber the mechanism is not cocked until the cocking lever is squeezed, which cocks the mechanism.
I assume but could not ascertain, that if the cocking lever is activated but a round is not fired, when the cocking lever is released the mechanism returns to unlocked and is therefore safe.

The Walther RS3 works on a similar principle.

Glock pistols work on a similar principle though these are trigger cocked as opposed to a separate cocking mechanism.

Would love to get my grotty mitts on either to further explore the technical workings. Any wealthy sponsors out here ? 🤣

I'm not sure I like the safety
It’s different for sure, but the ergonomics work really well resulting in minimal shooter induced ‘platform’ rock when aiming, firing and reloading - and I’m not usually a fan of straight pull rifles.
Besides, it’s also good to see Beretta Holdings and Blaser Group getting some independent competition.

Hve you held the gun?

Okay, then we have had different experiences. I found the safetylever very annoying, because I do not want any unnecesary tension in my triggerhand. Holding the lever draws attention to other fingers and away from my triggerfinger. Really not liking that. Then again, it is a personal thing. I like to shoot very light triggers and that also is not for everyone....

I can understand that. With my grip I didn’t notice any additional tension in or on my triggerhand. As you say it’s a personal thing.

The J1 is designed to be totally modular and Jakele advertises it as a switch ‘furniture’ rifle. As a result, it is also a switch ‘barrel’.
