Joining a deer organisation

I want to join a deer organisation, does anyone have any suggestions to join BDS or BASC - or any others for that matter.

BDS is generally more informative with deer related issues a good source of information well worth giving them your support
BASC all round shooting concern, if I’m honest the way the things are placed for any shooting discipline my thoughts irrespective of what some may say, we need to draw together as a bigger voice as possible and support just one - BASC have been with us the longest and it’s only my opinion but they deserve any help by way of support to keep the fighting fire well and truly lit - shooting people are at great risk right now

Do BDS hold DSC1 courses in scotland? I know BASC do and the dsc1 is next on my agenda - which is pushing me towards joining BASC to be honest

Pretty sure there is or was a guy on here who run them in your neck of the woods

e mail the DMQ they should be able to give you a list of training centres which is I believe now the hub for BDS and BASC training for all disciplines

The BDS is a deer organisation (which is what you asked for). BASC is not.
I am a member of both, but I feel that the BDS serves my interests better.

If it’s to do DSC1 you don’t have to be in either, but all things deer is BDS.
for info NGO have a deer section.

Found the BDS a waste of time. My local branch which I joined a while ago offered a mentoring scheme which I applied for and was given a mentor and am still waiting to meet him or go out. I had a few half hearted emails from the mentor and as nothing happened I dropped out.

Went to look at their stand at Scone last year and found them stuffy and stand offish. The tent next door of deer management associations were very friendly and open and sadly couldn't help me.

Strikes me the BDS is a wee club for tweed jacketed folk in their late 60s/70s and a closed shop

With respect, you’ve answered your question in the proposition. Join the BDS if deer is your thing.

The BDS are not however a shooting organisation so cannot - nor should they - be compared with BASC etc.

Given your location I would suggest contacting Brian Kelly if you are looking to do your DSC1 (Trossachs Deer Management in Callendar).

If you fancy taking in the sights for a couple of days then you could do a lot worse than heading up to see @Moray Outfitting for your course. Absolute gentlemen, and a fount of knowledge about deer and their management.

I have decided to join bds and basc, although have never heard back from basc after my application and payment some days ago.. is this normal?
