In all my years I’ve never seen a Gypsy lurcher starved for working .

Dogs are maltreated but don’t make up rubbish that it was for coursing.

‘Making up rubbish’? I don’t know the source of the rescue lurchers I’ve worked with but all were found starved. Maybe you might consider working with your local Greyhound/Lurcher charities in your region to understand the current crisis of hounds reaching them and probable histories based off rescuer experience and hound presentation.

My take on this may be a bit controversial. It's all very well dealing with the symptoms, but until the source of this disease is dealt with we're on a hiding to nothing. Destroy the origin. Why should a 'travelling community' mainly consisting of career criminals be given any special privilege whatsoever, regardless of whatever 'heritage' they laughably claim is their right. They're nothing other than a collective society of travelling bandits. Move them on whenever they appear. Deny them any rights of society. Charge them when they commit an offence and follow up on it. Raid their nests with riot police whenever stolen goods/cars/farm equipment is known to be on site. They laugh at us. Simple answer? Show force and wipe the smirk off their faces

The other bit I find hard to understand is if your local plod know its lads traveling from Wales (or anywhere else) then why can they not organise for the vehicle used to be stopped during the 4/5 hour run home?

Exactly, they aren't interested. They are probably reluctant to get involved because of the type of people who do this, it would take a coordinated approach to carry out an arrest so is too much effort .

The ratio of police officers per traveller would, I imagine, given the current stamp of our finest, be about 10:1.
It's a conundrum of how to deal with the problems they throw up for a law-abiding society. They are literally "A Law Unto Themselves" and enjoy some sort of protection because of the status given to them, what an unfortunate predicament the rest of us find ourselves in.
