Knife / Blade for cutting skin

Attempting to cut through deer skin with an ordinary knife is challenging if not impossible, any recommendations on a specific knife or machine that would do it?

Any particular area? I find the area around the hocks on Roe and Muntjac quite fiddly and a Mora Roeing knife is very useful to cut through without cutting into meat.

For other areas, I like a knife with a good belly (rounded portion) for smooth and controllable cuts on an uneven 3d surface.

Thank you, just to be specific I mean cutting up the hide when it’s off the carcass. I don’t mean cutting the hide away from the meat. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh right, that's interesting, why do you do that? I tend to give the pelt to a mate who is into amateur tanning, or bin the whole thing.
Might it be easier to cut up if it is under tension? So have an emergency secured and then cut through the skin while it is being pulled, to prevent slack skin absorbing the cutting force?

What are you going to make with with what you cut or just tidying it up. A good description will get better answers as often the case on here.

On occasions I’ve stripped up muntjac and Roe skins for training / tracking aids with any of my blades,
Hook one rear leg skin on a nail with the inner skin not the fur side to you starting from your holding hand side cut the skin down like paper leaving an inch at the bottom, slice up into strips bag up in freezer put a couple off when needed

Sharp blade is preferred in any make

Good to see your making use of it all 👏👍
