For Sale: Knife Sharpening/ Regrinding service

Buck Alpha came back safe and sound, a quick turnaround and razor sharp now. Excellent job, thank you.

Great job done on my knife-in a hell of a state when I sent it. Now shaving sharp and ready to use again. Many thanks.

Just thought I'd drop this in,

cheers

I just re-stropped mine after Longstrider got his hands on it in summer last year. Back to shaving sharp in just a few wipes on the leather 👍

I used to deal in edged weapons and have sent many expensive knives, bayonets and swords through the post and around the world over many years and would advise that you should always insure your package for its full value and send 'signed-for' recorded delivery. These days I like to use UPS but also use MyHermes, they both gives Email and SMS updates as to the delivery and I have never had a problem with either of them, I always list 'tools' as to the contents.
I'm not keen on Royal Mail, I think they are expensive and I have had lost items with them.
Hundreds of knives nevertheless problem royal mail special delivery. Hermes ? Well I have a great lady delivers here but many of thier staff are poor in the extreame , had knives put safely into dustbins !! And more . I also get a rest of the world service with royal mail
Special delivery is full value insured if lost but thing is they don't tend to loose them and putting a parcel in a bin is a sacking offence ( even if the customer leaves instructions to do that )

You're using set angle edges then Tom .. I'm guessing that's by using a sharpening jig ? I sharpen by eye and hand with diamond hones and then strop to produce an even convex edge that flows from cutting edge to main grind bevel. If I am looking for an edge that's solely for silly stuff like Rizla cutting then I'll make the edge finer and more acute. I can cut Rizlas with any of my working edges, but it's easier with an edge prepared for just such stuff. I have done a Rizla cut with my Gransfor Bruks Axe. That axe makes very light work of sectioning green wood I can tell you ! ;) Half the problem with set angle edges (as I see it) is the corner at the transition from primary to secondary grind angles (main blade bevel to edge angle). It 'catches' at the material being cut if a penatrative cut is needed and make the job harder to do. Look at the shape of a racing yacht hull if you want something that will slide easily through material ;)
Yep hand and eye myself, couldn't even tell you what angle I put on which, just I use the same methods on like knives .

That comment of mine was 2 years ago, I now do use Royal Mail SD when sending anything valuable, they are not that much more expensive since MyHermes hiked their prices and as you say fully insured, but even this can be increased to cover highly expensive things like watches etc.

Just got my knife back from Longstrider after a full refurbishment including a new sheath.
Fabulous job, totally delighted, highly recommended just silly sharp.
Liked the little bit of elastoplast included, I will probably need it!!
