Ref Knives

Hi,
I was working a stand at the the IWA nurenburg the last 3 years and opposite was the Schrade stand. Anyway gets talking and the US company bent bust about 8 years ago and an american guy buys the rights and has them made in China now and sells all over the world so I guess it"s stay away from that name in the future.
Outdoor edge were also close by and they appeared to have a good product lineup and knowledge.
Regards

That, my friend unless I'm very much mistaken is a very well used Puma white hunter... current replacement value... (are you sitting down) almost £400.... My late father gave me his long before he passed away. It now has an edge you can shave with but wont see much (if any) use it's too valuable (sentimental and otherwise).

Opinels.. great knife-high carbon steel-holds an edge better than stainless and fairly cheap.

The orange cheapies are also great for the same reasons, doesn't matter much if you lose it and holds a good edge.

The best knife (of course) is the one you make yourself (always is, I wonder why....?) but don't make something illegal, locking knives, assisted opening knives. butterfly knives etc....

purchased a helly knife 65bucks lasted one deer  blade was like a razor but ege was short lived bits snaped out of it then purchased a wright bushcraft knife can skinand cut a deer up with no problem you can then chop down a few trees for the fire and asemble a shelter while you wait for your deer to cook cant blunt it or brake it so il keep it 100pounds from flee bay nice bone handle good sheath and fire steel mine is the one on you tube look it up wright knives recomended

Hmmm lets see when stalking I have a buck Cross Lock in it's case on my belt, for those that don't know it's a one handed opening twin blade knife one std blade and one gut hook blade, very useful ;) and with a little practice you can open the gut hook then close it switch the knife around in the hand and open the blade all with one hand.

In my pack I carry a Boker Arbilto which is stainless blade in a black composite handle and also a Frost Apache that a freind sent me from the US. I had a chap at the Archery club make a leather sheath for it :-D

I also have a Boker Stag handled knife which has a slimmer blade it ususally lives in the knife pocket in my Deer hunter pants so I never have to worry about knives going blunt in the field nor losing one as there is always a back up :-D .

For a while I had an old Wade & Butcher "Boone" clip point knife of carbon steel but the sheaf was worn out and a new one was made by John Moore however it was not right so it was returned to John for correction and that's the last I saw of my knife or John

Now for skinning I brought a Cudeman Skinner which is a strange looking knife but boy does it do the job. Me friend in Missouri, Steven, was so impressed with it he asked me to get him one so I did just that. Mine has laminated resin impregnated handles but for Steven I got an Olive wood scaled one and it looks as good as it works :-D

Now I prefer Drop point knives with a comfortable handle, one that fits my grubby little mitt ;) , I use an India stone to keep the edge on them. Of course the wood handles and stag horn are no-no's now in carcase prep  The Frost has laminated wood scales but they come off with two small allen bolts so it's totally strippable and the Chinese made stainless blade takes and holes a surpisingly good edge.

OMG

All i can say is it takes all sorts.

Have you got ceramic ducks flighting up one wall in your sitting room?

That looks very much like the one that was stolen along with a few of my guns 30 years ago. Got the guns back but I miss the Puma. A local distributor had White Hunters on special for $299US each last fall. Bought a specially priced Bowie, instead. I'm happy enough with the decision.~Muir

Probably all the rage a few years ago boys but things like that have no place in modern stalking today in my opinion.
Good ole vim eh he sure could spot the pretenders,lol..

You should know Mark. Seeing as he is you, and you is he. Or to put it another way Vim, Scarlet and HunterV are all the same person. Only you have been banned from here as Vim and HunterV So lets not pretend ay!

Does that mean that you have won the game of Cluedo?
Was it Miss Scarlet in the library with the lead pipe or the nicked knife
or was it panshine in the kitchen scouring the pans?

Yes i posted using the name Hunter V and if you look back with a search no doubt you`ll find that i contributed some decent material to our site. Unlike some..
Now i`ll repeat myself Stu that knife of your`s in the picture that i posted, a considerable time ago i might add. Has no place in modern stalking and infact such a piece would be quite un hygienic to use either out in the feild or in any type of working larder.
Cheap reliable and hygienic alternatives are readily available and easily replaceable if lost..

That a different way of doing a gralloch Vim . I mean Mark sticking the rear leg up your arse, i know it might do your piles some good in the process but it cant comply with FSA regulations can it

As I sterilize my knife on each and every occation Mark and it does the job exceptionally well most certainly better than all the cheap crap bendy steel jobbies that are around and has done for over 30 years and as i sterilize it it complies fine

Neither do I use it for larder work I have other equipment for that

Yet inevitably you were banned under the name HunterV, as you were under the name of Vim, in spite of or should the be despite your contributions?

I think you need to define your understanding of quite unhygienic. Would you say the use of wooden handles is unhygienic?
