Kuiu gear?

How do you folks rate the kuiu stuff? And what did you go for? I’ve heard the trousers are more like a layer / overall and you need thermals or similar underneath? Like the look of their stuff but it’s fairly pricey so thought I’d ask first.

did have the harkila pro hunter jacket and trousers and to be fair they lasted a while but the trousers always felt damp around the knees and seems to be a fairly regularly occurring problem with them.

Cheers!

I have Kuiu trousers (attack).Great fit extremely comfortable but not waterproof. Expensive yes

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Besides underwear  , do you wear anything underneath them or do they suffice as trousers rather than a waterproof trousers type idea? What made you go for the attack ones? I know they’re more robust but I’d have thought they’d be water proof. Cheers!

There's better stuff out there, I have a jacket and trousers can't remember which ones and I'm away from home at the minute, They were expensive for what they are.

Thanks! It’s mainly trousers I need but if it has to match so be it.. I’ve some deerhunter stuff and it’s really warm but far too heavy for any stalking on foot. Any suggestions? Seeland seems pretty popular?

Just get what others recommend in a simular environment to yourself ie is it forestry or lowland hard/rough work or is it the odd game day or shoot etc ,the best i had where a cheap pair of seelands thin as hell but a liner dried out in mins wore them for years for everything shooting related till eventually wife threw them in bin cos she was peed off with sewing them i have another pair had them six yrs in wardrobe wearing those now but they are heavier ,also got some solognac decathlon ones they are good and cheap also going to use my scruff work pants twenty quids worth, they all have a place ,no good buying 4 hundred quid nz mountain pants if i,m in a field in carslyle/cheshire ,imho just my take on it but i aint paying for a label! .atb

I have and have had a fair bit of Kuiu gear. Well thought out and made
I have never had the pants as I like Fjallraven so stick to them
I think the Peleton 240 jacket and the 200 top are about as good a outdoor gear I have had brilliant
I loved guide jacket as well - but no better than Arc’teryx
Yukon rain jacket is good - but a bit much for me so I sold it
Socks not a patch on smart wool
Gloves over priced
Gaiters decent but expensive

Hope this helps

Attack pants are far from robust. Comfortable yes, but you’ve only got to look at the slightest bit of cover and they are snagged and frayed beyond belief.

My favourite trouser and jacket are the chinook. Don’t think they make them anymore. Pro pant is the nearest equivalent I believe.

The merino is good as a base layer but fragile. Merino pro may be worth a look.

The Kenai range is really good! Got the guide jacket. Didn’t rate it at first, but the more I wear it the more I like it. Can’t fault the Yukon range, other than price. Super down pro jacket and trouser are good for lamping or high seat, but again. Expensive.

Other slight niggle is that Kuiu love a zip! Stupid amount of zips on some items.

Overall though, really like their systems, very breathable if worn correctly.

Cheers guys! Appreciate the feedback. For some reason doesn’t seem anywhere near as popular over here as other brands. Always seems to throw up mixed reviews as well

A lot of the gear thats used is crossover gear between hiking and hunting ,dont forget most if not all foriegn hunters aus/nz/us use largish day packs so carry a mix of gear for every eventuality or long hauls/stays we dont need to do that so much but you see what i mean you can pick out whatever we/you are going to actually use or might need. i,m a cheapskate anyway so i just buy what i need and not what someone wants to sell me. good luck ;)
