Leaver Action 22lr recommendations

I have the standard Henry 22lr lever action. Got it brand new, its a bit ammo picky and not the most accurate of rimfires, but perfectly good for squirrel or rabbits. Excellent fun to shoot quick at some steel etc. Would never sell it, its way to fun and a lovely lightweight rifle to carry on a gentle stroll round.

Nice looking bit of kit that. Even got Mr fox to pose for the photo 🤣
I remember that fox well

We were out lamping fox's and my friend lined up a shot on one and just as he fired it stepped forward and I remember seeing the bullet in the lamp. I noted how the fox ran off. I was convinced it had felt that bullet.
The next day I scouted and happend on a fox reluctant to move. After shootout and examination I noticed a small nick on one of it's lower back legs, fresh. It was undoubtedly the same fox.
I shot it with Winchester t22 as well.

I’m curious what ammo yours likes. I had one but sold it years ago. Just picked up a brand new one yesterday. I was planning to use subs in it as my 457s like them and they are quiet for hunting in my back yard. Seems like my precious one shot the 1050 fps well and wondering how it will do with the 970 and and 710 fps I have now.

I momentarily forgot it’s a little more of a hassle to purchase firearms over there. Maybe it would be worth it to hold out for a Winnie or Marlin if it’s the only lever 22 you will have. I had an itch for one and the Henry was the best balance of cost and quality available right now. But I would buy on the spot a 39 or 94 in good shape at a decent enough price. Problem is in my area they are like hens teeth. I saw a marlin a few weeks back not in the shape of a firearm I’d usually purchase and it was $650 and I almost bought it. Probably should have but just wasn’t how I wanted it. They don’t come around often.

I’ve owned 2 Winchester 9422’s and now have a Marlin 39a, the Marlin is a slicker, nicer rofle to shoot. Nothing wrong with the Winchesters. They just aren’t up to the standard of the Marlins.

Both are fun to own.

A bit of fun or practical in the field?
Just added 22lr onto my cert and I'm very interested in the leaver action rifles, particularly the Henry Repeating Arms Golden Boy.
However, I've never shot a leaver action so have very limited experience of how good they are in terms of accuracy, handling etc
What leaver actions do people recommend in 22lr and do you think ill be better off getting a standard bolt action? (For rabbiting/plinking mainly)
Feel free to post photos!
Marlin 39M or 39A all day long.

I have found thay cci subs and the eley subs are the best in mine. Segmented subs from cci were terrible, blew them appart leaving the muzzle. Rws weren't the best, ok for some steel bashing. But best group is from the eley 38 grain subs are the best, just very dirty! Cheapest in my local as well so thats a bonus.

There are a lot of good and great 22lr rifles out there, and I've got many of them 😉

But I just love the Marlin 39a.
I started shooting with my father's one back in the 70s and he still has it. I now have one, my son has one and between us we've taken more rabbits and other pests on the farm than we can count.

They can be picked up at auctions now for very little money, much like many older 22 rifles. It's sad really.

There's a reason the Marlin has the record as the rifle in production for the longest time without significant change. Over 100 years. I hope Ruger will continue with it.

I have an 1892 model made in 1897. It is the same rifle as my fathers (made in the 20s) and my one (made in the 70s). The biggest difference is the magazine - on the 1892 it is the outer tube that slides, on the newer models the inner tube slides out.

Still the same great take down action.
