All of my favorite rock bands were from UK. Led Zeppelin is by far my favorite.

It’s always been my understanding Zep was huge in the US, but kinda panned in the UK.

Any merit to this?

Bunked off school to see the Song Remains the Same.

Cinema was almost empty, myself and 2 friends, plus about 5/6 guys ina group who kept hsoutung 'turn it up'.

The usher came in and told them to be quiet, but they kept shouting, about five mins later the manager appeared. There ensued a conversation and he left. The sound level got turned up, not quite to live concert levels, but it was brill.

Led Zep were indeed very successful over in your neck of the woods and I'm always pleased to hear how often they're still played on the radio over there but they were big here too! I went to a Robert Plant gig on Cannock Chase in 2015, pretty much home ground for Plant and certainly my childhood stomping ground, it was very well attended and one of the best gigs I've ever been to, pure magic!

Indoctrinated as a very young lad, playing cards and board games with crew on the ships we sailed with my old man on. Was too young to attend a Zep concert, but seen Plant a few times. Music still as fresh as it was 50+yes ago.

Robert Plant was a lurcher lover and had a beddy X grey Arthur , no ego with him sound guy signed a few albums for me !
I met him years ago on holiday in turkey.
We were staying in a family run hotel and he was staying there too.
He was good friends with the owner and told me they were going hunting wild boar.
Sould bloke who sat at the bar chatting with the rest of us.

Always wondered what was the secret sauce in UK rock bands. Is the weather too variable over there so they spend more time indoors practicing and creating music?

Led Zep has always been one of my favourite bands . I met Robert Plant about 30 years ago and had a drink with him , a very approachable and friendly guy .

Look at this venue, 1969 - The Toby Jug, Tolworth, adjacent to the main A3 London-Portsmouth road. Aged fourteen, I was only allowed to stand in the door and watch….the amount of bands/artists that performed at this venue early on in their careers but went onto greater fame is staggering.

We were at the cinema on Tuesday night watching the Bob Dylan film, which was very good by the way, and one of the trailers was for a Led Zeppelin film/documentary that is out soon - looked good.

A few more, over the years, at the Toby Jug (sadly now demolished)

David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust tour
Ten Years After
Fleetwood Mac
Status Quo
Blodwyn Pig
Jethro Tull
King Crimson
Ultravox

The list goes on….

No not really, they were as big in the UK as in the US, for example the Earls Court concert in 75 and Knebworth in 79. They were not liked by the London based music press who used to regularly give them bad reviews in the music press. Probably because they were mainstream focussed and could not cope withe the energy, charisma and sheer balls out attitude of the greatest rock band in the world.
