I am contemplating a trade deal on a Leica Magnus. I am looking what people would value this scope at used. I can find various online sales between ex demo on here at 1400. Never being a Leica scope owner I’m not certain on there re-sale value. Any hints would be appreciated

The 2nd hand value would be the same as any other premium unit if mint. £1700-£1850 as a guesstimate for a Magnus 2.4-16x56 BDC (obviously this can vary from each retailer)

Some of the trade manage to get hold of ex demo models, which apart from being used at exhibitions.

That is roughly my thinking for a retailer with a private sale at between 13-1500. The owner estimated his BDC value at 2150. Was unhappy when I pointed out they could be had new for less.

It’s worth what someone is willing to pay! And had you put this up c3 weeks ago it could have been your lucky day!

I’m assuming it’s the latest (gen 2) model?

Good luck with sale.

Bear in mind with trade in the seller will also be thinking what he can make on it as well. You need to consider the whole package, plus consider how easy / difficult it is to sell on yourself. Nowt wrong with Leica scopes, but they don’t seem to get the respect nor value they deserve in the market compared to Swarovski or S&B.

And I also think that Leica and their importers are prepared to shift scopes for a reasonable price, whereas in the UK Swarovski’s retail at a premium - compare US pricing to UK - eg z6i 1.7-10x42 is £1,870 in UK but $1,920 in US if bought direct from SwarovskiOptic website. The US price is £1,440 - almost worth getting a cheap flight across.
