Lens replacement surgery advice.

I’ve been wearing glasses for 20 years now which started with cheap reading glasses to varifocals now. I’m lucky enough to stalk without the need to wear them as I can compensate with the scopes dioptric correction when focusing the reticule however that, unfortunately is fast running out as my eye deteriorate. I don’t wish to wear glasses when looking through the scope so I’ve decided to go for lens replacement surgery.
I would appreciate advice from stalkers who have gone through the procedure in particular choosing the correct lens, I have said previously I don’t want to wear glasses when looking through a scope.

You need to research this v carefully. If you have your lenses replaced I am pretty sure you will need to wear glasses.
I have worn specs for 50 + years. No issues. Daily varifocals but for shooting at night single vision.
Contacts v good if need be I use Daily disposal 30 pairs last me a year .
My only issue is I cannot use iron sights as cannot focus rear and fore sight together.

I think much depends on your age.
I had Lasik in 1993 when I was in my 30s. It 'lasted' about 25 years, when I needed to start wearing glasses again, as eyes deteriorate with age.
I now wear a single contact lens when stalking to look through the scope/spotter etc., the rest of the time I wear varifocals.
Contacts are cheap, especially if only worn occasionally.

Why not give that a go, if it doesn't work for you then get the surgery
 
I wear contacts but have dry eyes and get cysts on my lower eyelids I generally only wear them when stalking because I hate wearing glasses when using binoculars. Contacts aren’t suitable for everyone. I’m quite interested in the idea of lens replacement or laser. I’ve heard astigmatism can also be corrected. I can’t use Zeiss illuminated reticles or ret dot sights due to them flaring.
 
A contact lens would be a simpler and easier. Even just in your shooting eye. Daily disposables more hygienic given your hands are likely dirty when you remove them.
 
Thanks for the replies. I’ve made my mind up to have lens replacement and so I’m particularly interested in those who have had the procedure and use scoped rifles,

I had new lenses in both eyes (both done at the same time) and it's been a revelation. Colours and contrast are much sharper. After long discussion with the consultant, the decision was made to go with simple lenses (varifocals are available) and continue to use glasses for reading. I still wear my glasses - slight astigmatism, photochromic lenses for the sun (what sun, I can hear....). I can shoot without my glasses with both rifle and shotgun, but have no problems using binos or rifle with glasses on. Only thing to keep in mind is that a small percentage of lens replacement patients will need to go back after some time - the capsule into which the new lens is inserted can thicken over time and cause some vision loss, but its a simple ten minute job to get it lasered and you're right back to normal.

I wouldn't be concerned about lens replacement - fantastic results, and after some drops of local anasthetic, it took the surgeon approximately 8 mins a side for me to complete the procedure. Had to wait 15 mins in the recovery room, just in case there were any issues, then I walked out! Just remember to have some sun glasses for the journey home - the world is suddenly VERY bright. I've had the lens replacement surgery and I am very please with the results so far, choosing Extended Depth of Focus lenses which am please to say are not an issue when using scope sights.

just as an aside from this. is there any impact on eye dominance post op? really like to not wear glasses again.

i am looking to also get my vision done. im -1 and -0.75 so not bad. i really struggle with glasses when shooting (game, clays, stalking, night shooting ) and also contacts last for 6/8 hours before being irritated. i spend £200 a year on glasses and contacts so it may also be financially benefical to get them done if it can last to 25 years. im 45.

I had my eyes lasered 20 years ago and recently had a touch up. I have blended vision ... my right eye is spot on for distance and my left is slightly short sighted so that in good light my eyes are good enough for me to read small print easily. If you go somewhere really good ( I use the London Vision Clinic in Harley street) they will probably refuse to correct vision that is frankly pretty good to start with ... the risks will clearly outway any benefit ....at best you might convince them to correct your dominant eye and leave you with blended vision maybe?
No change in eye dominance.
 
I had the procedure to correct my vision.
I was using single use contacts prior to this to correct my visual vision.

I have mono vision which might have been referred to as blended where one is for close and the other for distance. I used contacts in the same way apparently. They were prescribed this way after consultation.

I asked to have the eight eye as dominant and suitable for use with optics’s. Best I can tell it is working.

Left eye is for reading but mono vision tricks the brain to be blended, But there are options of near, far and multi focal. Multi focal may see halos in night driving

The local optometrist said I might still need glasses for somethings in the follow up. To date no and the reason for going to mon vision was because my goal was to use glasses as a last resort.

Basically I guess I could fine tune with glasses but I don’t see the need. That could be a miscommunication between doctors

At 51 the corrective lens replacement will now mean I won’t get cataracts as I age.
I was given a twilight anaesthetic and the procedure is quick and painless I was half hour in recovery after eating and drinking .

Overall good.

As much as I was driven to avoid wearing glasses I find I am needing sunglasses more where previously I hardly used them.

 
Costs probably around 9k. I tried to get mine done. But I've a problem with the outside of my right eye and the surgeon said (not worth the risk) so am doomed to wear glasses forever. I've scars and debris on the outside of my eye. Result of being a scaffolder and working in dusty conditions.
