Letters of permission contents

Hi folks, I’ve got hold of a new permission (1st one) but I need to get a letter of permission to firearms, it makes sense to me as my ticket isn’t open. The land owner has asked me to draft it which I’m more than happy to do, but is there anything that I absolutely must include in the letter to avoid any issues with licensing? Any help would be much appreciated

I would put the owner of the rights details who are entitled to give the permission, details of the land, what may be shot (AOLQ preferably).

This is a good point as they will be getting on with their day this time of year ditching prep for spring drill power line people
also contract farms will just turn up as they could be close by and decide to pull down a bit they have left (Headland)
I shoot a dozen farms all with different systems so I check.
At the moment they are cutting one wood so I will go to a different part of the farm (easy)

Personally I would not tie yourself in to the suitable firearm/mod part but that is me.

I am going this afternoon chasing Fallow it is 55mile round trip the ground is dry enough to pull down so I text and asked
if they are working, "No Tim please come over"
Farmers just get on with life/work in their bubble!

Get the landowner to draw in the boundaries on the map and sign it.then if ever there is a dispute, you at least have proof that you weren’t intentionally trespassing. Just a precaution.

Not every landowner what to be 'bothered' every time you rock up.
Check with yours.

Don’t put the clause in. But, if he is happy, do text him when you are coming on site. It gives him a chance to comment if there is anything he needs you to be aware of and also lets him know you are attending.
I was asked to go to one site because the guys hadn’t turned up in a year. I turned up and so did they. They just never notified the owner. So good to let the owner see you are attending.

In the end the owner will make it fit his land, On 2 of my letters it states to contact before entering.
On one it states contact the owner also the Tennent farmer (it does not say they will reply but contact)
A different farm the son is know running the show so I asked him what he wanted me to do?
"Carry on please as previous" So I just text Robin.

It matters not what we say it is what they want that counts.

You could have 2 letters one with all the details in for you and the land owner and another with just your name and address, the landowners name and address an has permission to… for the police if it’s just to prove you have permission.

Lots of good advice above - I use the BASC template but add in a paragraph of farm specific points if there are requirements or restrictions such as. I think the map is actually the most useful bit of it.

On the whole the simpler the better and the less you can commit to writing the better - I don't have a contact clause on any of mine but have verbally agreed with all (I only have 3 permissions) that I will give advance warning, book in and book out on the day - all via Whatsapp.

I always have the farm maps laminated and in my pocket because its useful to have a reference for where you are.

One farm has a fair amount of equestrian traffic and that owner likes me to have the shared location part of Whatsapp on so he can warn people of my rough location if they are heading out of the yard. I quite like it too as I can be located by the owner to direct the medics to me when my tired and ruined old heart finally packs in whilst I'm out.

A simple letter confirming a relationship is good practice. To be clear however, there is no requirement for you to share anything in writing with the Police, save that it is a simple tick box for them to show good cause for your firearm(s). Many landowners do not like things in writing as they can be copied etc. Ensure you get written confirmation from the Police that the land is cleared as you have a restricted licence - and press them firmly if it is not cleared. They do need to do this and may use it against you if you shoot without the clearance (as a breach of your conditions). Another constab is digging its heels in on granting land clearance - making it even harder for new adopters of the sport. Be firm.

Thanks, the land has been cleared, although I don’t know up to what calibre, so will need to make some enquires there
