Lever Gun Gurus, help me decide

I've an Alaskan Takedown in .357 - 16" barrel though. I love it, slick and accurate.

I wouldn't worry about this, as the Chiappa has 3 hardened pins behind plate on the forearm - at the joint - which can be adjusted if required - I've had mine for 5 years and it's still tight at the joint with no adjustment needed yet and is significantly more accurate than my last two Marlins!
i do worry , it's inevitable that it will eventually wear but whether thats enough to bother you is only for the OP to decide

my 45/70 marlin has surpassed my accuracy expectations

I don't think Winchester did a microgroove barrel.
This forum is amazing. When I bought it years ago the RFD told me it had a microgroove barrel. I've done some research just now and you're absolutely right. It is proprietary to Marlin. I recently fired some non jacketed bullets and they grouped well, but I was only shooting at about 15 yards. Now I know!

Out of interest, what do you have your .44 conditioned for? I have mine conditioned target only but I would be interested to know if I could use it for muntjac.

I don't have a 44, I had a 357 years ago but now only have a 3030.
44 mag from a rifle is eligible for anything in the England.
357 is easily capable legally for muntie.
It'll do more....so I hear..

I use a Henry Big Boy for gallery rifle. .357 but it's available in .44
It's probably a little pricier than some other manufacturers but I would say it's worth it.

My .357 (Rossi) is conditioned for vermin and AOLQ, I’ve taken muntjac with it.

.22 (marlin) for vermin and AOLQ.

30-30 (yet to be purchased) and 45-70 (remlin) conditioned for deer and AOLQ.

You should t have too much issue getting it conditioned for deer provided your FLD don’t get excited about ‘too many’ deer rifles.

I’ll add that in addition to not being able to easily mount a scope on a model 92 based rifle, you also can’t easily clean the barrel from the breech end. Whereas with the Marlin and its derivatives (Henry and now Smith and Wesson), one screw lets you remove the lever and bolt and the ejector, then easily swab out the barrel from the breech end. The model 92 is a stronger design, better both it and the Marlin are more than capable of digesting any reasonable 44 Mag load. Just something to consider if it hasn’t already been mentioned here. The best answer is to get BOTH!
