Billabong more to the point,tangled masses of vegetation and trees in which the deer hide..patience is the key.This pic is of an open section,most times you cant see the water for cover.

You can see the deer here,just behind is another section of crap thats impossible to hunt in.

At a Billabong near Mt Borradaile NT spooked some wild horses and caught a file snake, didnt see any deer but lots of pigs do the Samba range across The country John or just few locationsIMG_3664.webpIMG_3699.webp
 
They range into NSW now along the Great Divide and there is a patch up in the NT that are not as well antlered as the southern mobs.
 
Ok that i was not aware of that, had seen them in your parts but nothing further north, is there a reason for the lack of quality antlers? climate food sources or just smaller gene pool?
