So basically on one of the areas I wildfowl there is no cover its dead pan flat with a few small freshwater run offs which the ducks love to get on for a drink which are literally a foot deep gullys that you cant get into to hide, i want to try and decoy the ducks onto these little run off as there happy to go there but has anyone got any hide ideas that wont stand out like a sore thumb bearing in mind this is on a estuary and will need to be quick to put up/pack down and light weight my only thoughts were eitier just a simple low V shape hide to get in behind and see if the ducks just except it or just draping the net over me and the dog and see if I cant pass off as some sort of rock lol

Wildfowling not really something I know a lot about, but wasn't it traditional practice to dig a hole to hide in in those kind of circumstances?

3 sticks with a Y on top bit put them and the net around the gutter and sit on the the salting or mud. put the decoys behind/past you so they are looking at them. Std stuff really.

People have been removed from clubs for digging holes as most clubs have rules in not disturbing the marsh/saltings and have you ever tried to dig wet sticky mud with waders on!

I guess times change.
Despite having grown up on the east coast marshes, my knowledge of wildfowling is limited to reading books about characters such as Kenzie Thorpe, and it seems that digging holes ("graves" I think they called them) on the mudflats for the purpose of concealment was standard practice in those days.

(And yes, I've got plenty of experience of wet sticky mud and waders!)

Robinson Crusoe aka "Jack" shouted from his little shrinking island " Is the water going to get any higher?"
" You wanted to come wildfowling lol"
Come down Tim bring your waders and a spade:)

The southwest coast of Denmark is a large tidal area and there is a long history of using dugouts for waterfowling

In my opinion some of the most magnificent waterfowling that exists.

All you see on this picture will be flooded by tide when it is windy.

Dugouts are somewhat permanent.
Bailing, mud, rough weather, sea water, walking with a lot of decoys, wading, swimming (unplanned)
it is a big boys game at times 🙂

If making dugouts is legal, that is the way forward.

If not, a camouflaged layout boat may be an option?

I'm glad I hadn't just imagined it!

Just remember the fact that if duck aint really using the spot ... You wont do much if anything at all better . Decoys for generally should be used to get the duck well in range and comfortable to drop in " spot on the spot" Very rare you will pull duck off favoured areas with some decoys
