so being quite new to waterfowling (first year really getting into it) i have noticed birds avoid some hunters, those hunters include me, they seem to circle then veer off. So iam thinking they spot me!

movement is number one ofcourse but i feel i have that one down, i can get a deer to almost let me puy the barrel to its hide.

So far i have worn my gunning jacket wich is olive drab with webbing to keep all my shell pouches, snacks, papers etc in reach while iam in the kayak.

but i have some other options.

Flecktarn
dutch DPM (like UK camo but more yellow)
Finnish mo5 (very green dominant meant for evergreen)
and swedish m90.

So just for the fun lf it, wich would you wear?

i think il give the m90 a try in the morning, the geometric blocks might disrupt my outline well

environment is a peat swamp, no blinds possible, what looks like land will swallow you whole, if you dont know exactly what is land and what isnt you couldnt even get to the boat alive. Vegetation is cattails and floating moss and grassy reeds.

I'd go for the flecktarn. I'd also be wanting gloves and a face veil to cover the 'white bits'. Learn to stay very still and then bring the gun up in one motion when the time comes. Movement will give you away to the birds more than poor clothing choices ;)

I would have gone with the Dutch DPM and as little movement as possible..... Mind you, from what I've seen of Wild fowling/water fowling over here, the commonest colour/design would be stinking oozing grey which gets worse after every trip!

Just sit still is your best option 🙄
when it gets dark enough we stand up and "keep still"

Do you have a dog?

I would make sure you aren't washing whatever you wear in detergents that contain UV brighteners. Ducks have extra receptors in their eyes that enable them to perceive UV light. If you're glowing all over with UV, no pattern will hide you.

My favourite pattern is Danish M84 (flecktarn without the brown). Pretty much the same overall tones as the Swedish splinter camo, but with the dappled effect of the German one.

Depends if you inland or proper a Wildfowler out on the mud .
Got a rivers West Reed pattern also plan green and waders both have never made a jot of difference lol.
Movement is your camo and a face and hand covers .

Face mask/veil and gloves.
Ducks have enhanced visual green spectrum vision. Somewhere I have an article about it. Just sit still and watch them just under the brim of your hat or cap. Just like pigeon shooting but in the dark.
D

Face and handcovers definitely, i use pretty basic scrim scrarf and light gloves.

Where iam hunting is a lake covered in floating islands of vegetation. There is no tall cover to get into, i simply fill my boat with local vegetation and pretend iam a floating clump of overgrown peat myself. Just need to blend mu own body into it as well.

pigeon i have a lot of succes with but they dont seem too cunning a dpm onncho and a boonie hat fool them.

A lot of chances at duck are lost because people move far to soon if your decoying or on a flight pond wait for the birds to completly commit with there wings set before even mounting the gun far to many people hear the wings whistling overhead and start looking up and the white of your face combined with your movment blows your cover instantly. Also keep your dog still the last thing you need is the dog moving as you pick the gun up this also looses people oppertunitiys for a shot. As for camo just dull drab colours will suffice if its what you have combined with a bit of cover, my wildfowling jacket is just a dull green which never gets washed and has picked up various shades of esturine mud and algae from where Im trying to get in low around rocks and gullys

If the surplus flecktarn goretex raincoats are still available then go for those!

Cheap, mostly waterproof, decent camo.

Use mine on top of a better jacket, no worries about nose diving in the mud or getting dirty.

We shoot waterfowl on the coast in high winds and nasty weather, i highly rate those raincoats.

Sit/lay still, mask your face, sit still, be aware of sharp edged shadows, sit still, maybe drape your self with camo netting if sitting in the open in daylight.

Yea, no decoys, no land cover. Just a kayak, camo and a flight path they like to take.

currently trying out the DPM, seems to work well so far

face cover doesnt always work with my glasses unfortunately but i keep the sun in my back

this is a peat swamp, whatever looks like land will swallow you and the "islands" rearrange in the wind. one moment its dense fog, an hour later its clear, and then its back. A challenging environment. I am currently half beached on a clump of vegetation.
