Lightweight foxing rifle. Looking for ideas.

This, I picked up a great Sako A1 from @Edinburgh Rifles which had been previously been rebarrelled and it cloverleafs with factory ammunition all day long.
It came with an 18” barrel but is currently being chopped to 16.5 inches and re-threaded to be matched with my Freyr and Devik 149 moderator which should give me an even better truck gun and summer stalker.
Summer stalker.. interesting. I sold my .222’s for that exact reason; every time summer came around,I just didn’t trust that light bullet in the tall summer grass/vegetation.

Appreciate your point about vegetation and I wouldn’t want the bullet to be anywhere near any.
However, I find the .222 to be so accurate and consistent that 99% of my summer Roe bucks are neck shot and mostly on field margins or forest rides so clear line of sight allows an unobstructed bullet pathway and confidence that the bullet flight will be as expected.

Example above, this old timer was working his way around the side of a recently cut silage field, you can just see the exit wound about halfway down the neck.

Ok limit your choice by 90% for something more awkward to shoot, fill your boots. Only a sggestion.
I once bought a nice pair of boots from a shop. When I got them home I discovered they had put two right boots in the box. It was too far to go back so I kept them. I wore them for years. When I was out walking I always thought they would have been far more comfortable if I had gotten a left one 😎

What kind of bullet shoots without deviation through a screen of vegetation?
Worst excuse for selling a good 222 ever?

I don’t believe it ‘is’, a .222 will expand and deviate more so than say a 7mm hitting a wee bit of grass that one may not have picked up on in the scope, and should it do so, it’s more likely to hit the target and put the animal down.

This can be argued about till the cows come home, but it’s my view and opinion, and that’s the one that counts for me.
