Lightweight jacket

Looks quite good and not crazily expensive. How "packable" is it? I mean could you easily take it off for the climb and stuff it in your rucksack, leaving space for other stuff?

Well, just for a laugh I thought I'd try and get it into a large Sainsbury's tie handle freezer bag - 290mmx546mm... :-D

Arktis B110 in olive green (or camo). No contest. Plus their packaway waterproof jacket if you must (packs to about the size of a large orange!). See their current sale items.

Sorry, I just have a violent aversion to military/combat/tactical stuff. I'm not at war with the deer. I quite like them actually. But you know, it's just a matter of taste.

Well as much as possible I suppose! Ideally I'd like to be able to carry it around in a walnut shell.

This does everything that I want - waterproof, breathable, silent, matt, green.

The last thing I wanted was a camo bin bag that was shiny, noisy and soaking on the inside within 30 yards

Packability [sic] isn't something that I'm bothered about, so to find that it does all the above and squishes down to not-a-lot is a bonus. However as I don't carry a rucksack in the field, it matters not

Just checked the lowlander & it packs to the size of a holiday paperback & weighs almost nothing. I would consider swapping a large for an XL if that would help.

Well please let me know how you get along with it because my last big acquisition of kit was for my 30th birthday. I'm still using that stuff, it was good quality. But it is now nine and a half years old, so I'm researching what I may point people towards in September of this year, and am also working on an expedition to the French Alps shortly after. I mean I could do it in tweeds just to give my guides and friends something to talk about, but it's likely to be difficult enough as it is.

Orvis & others supply very similar hats and can improve on the price (considerably).
Hats are a totally separate discussion I think. However, any hat acquired will be amortised over the next ten years probably*, and will probably appear in a lot of photos, stories, and hopefully the press so needs to look the part. Finally though, I don't intend to pay for it myself!

*Bloody hell, I'll be fifty for the next hat??! In the meantime I need to work on becoming able to buy a hat whenever I want to...

.

I bought the Swedteam Axton jacket and trousers for the hunting trip to Portugal last Febuary. We had one cold, wet, crap, day and the Axton worked perfect. It rolls up into its own hood and takes up no room at all. Nice bit of kit and well pleased with it.

I couldn't agree more Pine Marten- but in olive green its just a good lightweight smock with useful pockets and which fits in my tweed jacket bellows pocket on the hill. Hopefully stalking 'fashion' will swing back to your philosophy a little and away from the current 'sniper' bent, but not sure that will suit the retailers so maybe not.

If its hats you want have a look at the Sutherland Sporting Tweed Company.

Going back to the lowlander , as Mckenzie says its fist size squashable
Literally fits in a pocket certainly go in a side pocket of rucksack or roe sack. & light , you wouldn't notice it

It's just occurred to me that trying on all the different jackets can be my stated purpose fur going to the Field and Country Fair in June. Who else is going?

Are the lowlander jackets still available and where? Similar post a little while ago , looked them up again and could not locate a retailer. Roe stalker on YouTube is a great ad for this jacket he's seems to be wearing his forever.
The swedeteam axton looks nice too, is there any reviews on this or is it new out? It does look a bit more than a shell though.

FWIW, my son has a Swedteam Axton jacket that we got for him before the start of last season. We were out shooting in some foul weather....but he stayed dry.

I'm even thinking of getting one myself......

Thinking of getting one myself. What is the sizing like on these? Was last season the game season? If so they seem to be very versatile. I was using a Shooter King jacket and got wet all the time. Looked good and well made but more bloody rubbish.
