Lightweight moderator

Yes really - for those people who may prefer not to totally spoil the appearance of an elegant rifle with a utilitarian ‘can’ when there’s more appropriate looking & just as effective alternatives.
If the looks of an elegant rifle are a consideration you invest in better earplugs, and ditch the mod.

Does anyone hunt without a muzzle device anymore? I keep thinking it must be nice to carry without a mod but just can’t bring myself not to use one. Maybe I just need to splurge on an ultra light model.

Yes. Me.
I ditched the mod and the bipod from my .270 and found it very liberating.
Much nicer to carry, much more handleable, and doesn't spoil the looks of a traditionally styled rifle.
I really enjoy it.

Nice! I just picked up a lovely 695 in .30-06 from Ed and thinking it would be much nicer to carry without anything on the muzzle. I’ve stopped carrying bipods too, sticks are much better. Do you just use a thread protector?

Rifle isn't screwcut.
I got a slot on my ticket for a mod, acquired a suitable mod, and then thought better of it.
Kept the original open sights intact (although I haven't tried using them yet).
Looks lovely.
Handles well.

(I have the exact same rifle make & model in .243 and that does wear a mod, so I have a direct comparison between the two. Going from the moderated .243 to the unmoderated .270 was, as I said before, quite liberating).

Moderators come in two forms
Consumable light ones or those made predominantly from Steel/Titanium

How fast you consume them depends on you
... stripping and cleaning, ... will all accelerate the wear.
What is the best way to make use of a moderator, both for attenuation and longevity?

While I have mods for my target centerfires, the main usage I have is on .22LR & .17HMR, and at the moment I use a selection of Wildcat Panther & Evo.

All the rimfires seem to be pretty filthy, so strip and ultrasonic bath is my preferred option, but would appreciate advice on getting the best performance out of them.
