Log burner and skull mounts

I'm looking at buying a cottage with a log burner in the sitting room - and would like to put a fallow skull mount above it.

I know we have all seen photos of rooms with red deer heads or oil paintings above the fire - and I know it doesn't do either any good.

But apart from a little soot, I can't see it doing a skull mount much harm?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Had this fallow Skull above the wood burner for over 15 years and other then a bit dusty, not affected- still got it now , but have moved house so in a different area now. I would not put a shoulder mount near a wood burner though.

I have one above the fireplace, and a pile of heads in the inglenook next to the stove. They're fine.
(Skulls, not taxidermy mounts, I hasten to add).
Glad you clarified your statement Tim...I was a little concerned that you had come across trespassers and had kept the pile of heads as a reminder :)

Nice Roe on the left and fair play for convincing the boss to allow them in the front room 👍

Thanks-The Roe was a bit of a brute, luckily the other half is more then happy to have them on the wall, have recently moved house so have more room to put my Africa stuff up too without having to duck underneath them 😂.

Stunning 👍 I have to make do with "the gun room" which really is the 4th bedroom and the barn...though nothing as nice as that roe to go on the wall yet...maybe one day :)

White bone creations uses mop and glow to "seal" his skulls, I wonder if getting ahold of that would be ideal? It gives them a shine if you put too much on but it stops dust (and I'd assume soot) settling into the skull.
