Long range 22LR

Anyone shooting long range with 22LR regularly? Over 100/200 yards? Most of what I’ve read suggests subs are the way to go and Eley’s new Ultra extreme long range would support this being as it’s 1100fps, however I watched a vid by the Aussie bloke and his wife shooting 300 yards where he suggested he had better results and grouping with supersonic (velociter) ammo…I currently use Eley match and the rifle shoots well out to 350 yards but about to test some eley ultra to see if it is more consistent.

Using SK Long Range currently. Good stuff.

Hitting targets at 400yds hasn't been much of an issue if you can call the wind. Hitting steel chickens at 300yds isn't a problem either. The steel Pikas (@300yds) are a bit of a challenge though, but still pretty consistently hit, with an odd one or two missing due to shifting winds.

The current "wisdom" is subsonics perform better, since it's only passing through the sound barrier once. Not sure if I believe that, but that is what many say....

The SK is a pain in the proverbial to get hold of - have to say the Eley match is doing well but I have a few boxes of Ultra to try…Will report back as I’ll be chronoing it too.

Yeah, it's kind of the opposite over here. SK and Lapua we can get. RWS and Eley are much harder to find. I really want some RWS-50 (what Anschutz USA tests their rifles with), but it's hard to find. Center X and SK LR are the more common ammo's used for LR 22 here....

Two things
Try lots of ammo
Try the ones that are available

RWS50/100 are good and relatively available when the current importer gets their shot together
The lapua range is excellent and I personally had excellent results with Lapua Midas….
Ragged hole at 100m
But..at close to £20 a box of 50 they should be
The Lapua long range is surprisingly not as expensive but I haven’t had a chance to test it in my rifle
Tried RWS in four or five flavours and there good but on the day the lapua topped it for group size

I've got to 292 metres on a 12" frying pan but only a couple of hits out of about forty walking round the target like a blind man. Need to find a big sandy bank and get some good data. Hits every time at 200m. Forget how well I've done on my 245m target and my records are embarrassingly scant or absent. Suspect 50% or so.

CZ 452, DIP 20 (I think) MOA rail, Burris signature Z rings with the inserts and the mounts are only a couple of rail slots apart from each other (both on the back half of the scope tube) so quite a lot more nod there. The 50m zero is something like 2 clicks off the bottom of the scope so I have just about the full range of dialing. Vortex 2.5-10x32 with a 30mm tube.

Using RWS hollowpoint subs and not bothering to wipe the wax off them. Going to change brands when I finish this brick. The wax is excessive and I don't think I need a hollow point. Will stay subsonic because I like peace and quiet.

Will post photos of the rifle in due course. It looks bizarre but it works.

You're at it again.it was 300 paces not yds, and it was a BSA cadet.177 with iron sights. I'll keep that drone flying to watch you.😎
Mk1 meteor actually so there.

We use to plink to silly distances often and its fun and in the right conditions surprisingly good.

I couldn't get serious about it though and I dont mean to detract from them that do, in fact I would enjoy watching their shooting and applause them were I there.

I definitely would try supersonics as I don't believe they all have a wobble how some would have us believe...👍🏻

My Mistake but I know Fallow didn't like HV solids at 50-100 paces when I was a youth 😱.

I like the CCI velociter 1400 fps std 40 grain bullet . just yesterday i was having a session bench rest accuraccy as normal . I only push the RF out passed 150 max on targets though anything living passed 150 is not really fair if i slip up a wind call etc Put them a midges high at 50 works best for me
