I think if your tracking wounded deer you should carry a round that delivers maximum terminal effect , once the beast is wounded then in my opinion the primary concern is finishing it swiftly and safely

Absolutely agree with you both. Quickly AND safely.

Something like a 170 grain copper expanding bullet at 2000 fps is very definitely more than enough to do the job and probably much safer than unloading something lighter and much faster into a deer on the ground or on the hoof inside 100 yds.

plenty of things to consider before taking the shot but make no mistake 170gr of lead with a down loaded round is no slower at killing than a full power copper round even on the hoof this is proven, expansion is very very good with lead people get blinkered with fast rounds,atb wayne
