Lurchers and stalking

We have a saluki cross family dog, (a rescue 5 yrs ago), he's got a better nose than my first lab had, it's up in the air ....with 2 seconds to spare before there's just a tail left disappearing into the trees, so he's on the lead. I have taken him out to track scent trail , as he's my fall back plan when the day comes I get a runner .
They’ve great noses, I’ve had a few lurchers with Sal in them but the one with about 50% has helped me out a couple of times with runners. Mine is as very well mannered , I had her from 7 weeks old.

@Tyla , groovy looking little fella :). Thanks for the image.
Edit; maybe not as small as I thought looking at him next to the Munty buck.

Some strength in that head!:thumb:
Yeah she's a strong type 💪 much preferred to the narrow whippety types. She's one hell of a nose on her though she can find stuff the others can't when she's working the long dales type grass and finds rabbits she'll go into a bit of a point with tail going for us to walk through to ouse them out.

I think you'll find that most lurcher types of variable blood lines.
Will make a superb all round hunting dog when entered correctly.
It's refreshing to see all you fellow lurcher guys on a predominantly based shooting forum. Keep it real 😉20210209_151941.webp

I said goodbye to Willow today. Nearly 15 years of adventures. I'm going to miss you girl.

I’ve a willow here too Tyla, she’s 12, slowing down. Sorry to hear that, they can do plenty of different tasks!
They certainly can. She was probably the best all round dog I've ever had. Did the first 5 years of her life being a full time lurcher, ferreting, lamping, vermin etc and then, as my interests changed, she changed her role. Learnt to be steady enough to work as a stalking dog, sit under a seat etc and even passed the UKDTR test and got a good number of successful tracks under her belt before she retired. She was quite handy on mobile wounded deer but would only chase if i told her. She'd still do a night lamping though up to about 10 years old. At a push she would even pick up shot birds although she never really wanted to. Also never killed a rat, too much of a lady for that lol. I'm really really going to miss her.

How is your Willow bred and what does she do?

She’s Sal/grey/deerhound/bull. I think I recognise your name from another forum. She’s by a dog called Tigger, I think you might know his owner, from Scotland.

Ah .... quite possibly. There's a few migrated to here from THL, seems like a long time ago those days
