I don't know how popular the 220 Swift is or was over there, but it had some following in the US. My father was always a fan, so when the barrel finally burned out of his rifle, I rebuilt it proper:

Purchased a Ruger #1V in 220 Swift back in the day and used it on Scottish roe deer with considerable success. In the 90's I had the stock coated in a camo skin as the wood was never particularly interesting:

I would most definitely have another 220 but using a bolt action.

As you intimate, great for cross-canyon shots at rock chucks or whistling varmints!

Bomb proof rife,I’ve had to and despite thrashing the 270 it refused to die. I sold it after 12 years still shooting MOA groups are better.

I had m77 mk2 in .220 Swift for 15 or so years. The one thing about that rig I disliked was the factory trigger, more creep than Jimmy Saville! It put a lot of foxes to bed amongst other stuff.

Jim Carmichael in his book The Modern Rifle described one Ruger 77 in 220 Swift as the most accurate’out of the box ‘ rifle he ever owned. I’ve not been without a Swift or two in the last 50 years, a bit like a Cosworth, you can never drive without smiling.

Its true, the speed is addictive. Even shooting those big 75 grain bullet it gets there before youre done pulling the trigger.

Agreed, loaded with 75gr ELDM's at 3200fps, the Swift seems to open a temporary worm-hole into another dimension filled with rage, and it all come spilling out through the unsuspecting varmint.

Rem 700 VSSF II in 220 Swift. 35 and 40gr Vmax go ‘swiftly’. 50gr TTSX are very good on roe.
You just need to ensure the cartridges are stacked right to avoid feed issues.
