Not exactly a kit 'n bits review, but I feel the need to big up R MacLeod's of Tain. Ordered a S&B by phone yesterday at 9 and had it in my hand by 10 this morning. Having hummed & hawed for a week, checked all the sites etc they come out on top for:

Price - £20 cheaper than the nearest rival, & special delivery was included.
Availability - the scope I wanted was in stock. Another outfit said I would need to wait 6 weeks!
Delivery - Tain to NW Herefordshire overnight is good and fair play to the Post Office as well. I wonder what a private operator would have charged to get a package from the wilds of Rossshire to the wilds of Herefordshire?

It's been posted before, but I'll do it again. If you are in the market for a scope, check out MacLeods.

+1 for Macleod's http://www.rmacleod.co.uk/

We popped in there on the way back from Sutherland last September and I picked up a Harkila Pro-Hunter jacket for less than I'd seen it elsewhere. They gave my wife a couple of the new midge patches to try for free....before I'd bought the jacket :-D

It's a real Aladdin's Cave.

Bought a scope from there in October, £300 cheeper that anywhere else in the country, posted overnight too. Just emailed Gregor actually, looking at another 2 rifles and a new scope so I'll see what comes back from him.

Very helpful and honest and will beat any one prices.

I bought my whole centrefire outfit from them, no one could touch them on price. It would be hard to better the service too. Top people to deal with.

I wish I knew this earlier in the week, I was out with Gregor I would have tried to embarrass the wee sod to buy some advertising :-D :-D

John

PS He is a good man to deal with though.

I have never met Gregor, but I have spent a bloody fortune with him over the years. A S&B, a Swaro last year and most recently a Blaser.

He is a good guy.

As you say John, it is time he paid for some ad space given the business that gets directed to him off this site.

Landed on his feet again, I'll be over there in the next couple of weeks to collect the 2 rifles I asked for...... ;)

Over the past 20 odd years I have taken many clients and friends into Gregors. Always puts a smile on his face when I walk in with a bunch of guys, especially if they are americans.

Good shop, run by a good honest man, although he needs to advertise on here, but JAYB has yet to convince him to spend the money ;)

Gregor's been good to me over the years too. Always cheerful and keen to offer advice and help.
Can't beat his prices either. He's always got something interesting in the gun racks!

I've found McLeods very good as well. Used to use Grahams in Inverness, till the prices got silly and the quality of some work done on my shotgun by them was terrible. After that i took a trip to Gregor's and have used him ever since.

I shall be seeing the gentleman in question this evening, and I shall attempt to get some money out of him. I will not be holding my breath though

bought a Leica rangefinder from Macleods last week. Couldn't get it working for the life of me. Quick phone call and I got some tips, but still not working. Packed up and send back, with a new one arriving on Tuesday. Swift replacement with no hassle. Now the owner of a fully functional Leica Rangefinder form Macleods!

Would recommend.

I never bother looking anywhere else, always an excellent service,
used to use Grahams but they lost my rifle:(, myself and the police weren't too happy, so if anyone got a synthetic ruger 243 in the post in around 1994 please let me know!!!!

How did they manage that?

I like macleods aswell, nice people to deal with and Grahams are a tad spensif

Well, I'm going to buck the trend here!!!
Three years ago I went to buy my first Shotgun, not knowing exactly what would suit me best I came clean and said I needed help with the selection. I don't know who I first spoke with but he wasn't enthused with my quest and rapidly hailed another to deal with me. I was rapidly paired with a shotgun and parted from my cash – but absolutely delighted with the end result, just not taken by the journey.
With this in my mind I opted to try Grahams for my rifle….they were exceptional in their input towards my purchase and at a fair price too.
Recently I’ve upgraded my scope to a Z6i and they bettered any price I could find (£170 less than Macleods quoted)

After reading the complimentary post here and elsewhere, i contacted him about a month ago in order to buy a rifle listed on his website, a new Winchester 70 Extreme Weather in 270wsm.

1st call - Busy with a customer in the shop so left my details and gun i was interested in.
2nd call - Got him but told the gun was in the back. Again left details and explained i'd phone in the afternoon.
3rd call - He'd retrieved the gun but the girl who updates the invoices wasn't in, so he didn't know how much he'd paid the importer for it or how much he wanted for it. Wasn't impressed with his comment, 'It does look nice though.'
4th call - still not sure how much he wanted!

Now i'll try and support the independant dealers whenever i can. I'll even pay a little more in the belief that they'll go that little bit extra to develop a bond and deal with you personally. However their amateurish 'give and take' attitude really frustrated and ****ed me off. The money was burning a hole in my pocket.

In disgust i turned to one of the large impersonal stores where you're just a number (the big one in Glasgow). One call and although they didn't have one in stock, they immediately quoted price and confirmed a delivery date!

Mcleods did themselves out of the sale of a new gun, moderator, S&B 8x56scope, brass, bullets, dies, etc. He later left a message on my mobile stating a price slightly higher, but i would have made the deal with him.

Next person to drop into Mcleods. Be sure to stroke the new Winchester 70 Extreme Weather in 270wsm - it's most probably still on his rack
