thats down right cruelClassic example of a less than perfectly placed shot but apparently the bloke couldn't get the doe to stand still long enough to pin the aiming mark!

+1 I'm looking forward to posts from this experianced deerstalkeri think it's more the self righteous, holier than though, 'I'm a trained sniper don't you know!' Way the original post reads that has got the hackles up... Perhaps if he had actually shot a deer under testing field conditions (or at all for that matter) he would be qualified to level criticism!
I'm pretty darned sure that if he had ever used his 'trade skills' in theatre 20+ years ago, he wouldn't have gone to check on his shot placement... If the target went down... Job done!
be critical of the photos by all means but reserve judgement until you either know the FULL circumstances surrounding both the shot and the objective of the shooter or you have gained at least a little experience of shooting live quarry!
one thing i'd like to know - can he tell me the colour of the gatehouse at hereford???![]()

thats down right cruel

Mintman, since joining this forum nearly a year ago you have been very quiet, now you come back criticising the way the classifieds are administered, questioning peoples ability to shoot and asking about stalking in lincolnshire
Ian.
+1 I couldn't have put it better myself, all things being equal but unfortunately they aren't,best one I had was letting a mate have a shot on a doe just before dark,i instructed him to hit her in the shoulder so as to avoid a runner and the bullet exited on the same side as the entry, dead deer but work that one out, only thing I can blame it on was it was .243That's the real world for you, nothing ever turns out exactly like in the text books or when the target is a bit of paper. Deer move when you think they are going to stand, wind blows, things aren't always standing just as you thought plus, as you've said, the bullet doesn't always hit exactly where you intended. By the nature of all the photos you've seen the animal has died and been found, which probably means it has died within seconds of being hit.
My, limited, experience of stalkers is that they are rarely accurate to the nearest fraction of an inch but they know their limitations and they are good at getting a quick kill even from a dodgy rest, in the half light, with a gusty wind and with a real live and unpredictable target in front of them. They also know when not to take the shot. This effective real world shooting is not the same skill as accurate shooting and I would venture to suggest that the accurate shooter may not always be capable of dealing with all the variables that go to make up an effective shooter on live game.

Well... people will use marginal deer calibres! it probable went in, bounced off the nearest bone and came back out again... deer probably died laughing!![]()

I had a call the other day to go and find a muntjac that had run for a mate on here that bullet had gone in the shoulder bounced and exited a long way back with his marginal 308
Needless to say I left the gralloching to him

Anybody who has got a bigger calibre than a 308 is to make up for their poor marksmanship![]()
