marksmanship(or lack of)

Mintman, the honest feedback is that "ex military shooter (sniper)" really dicks people off. It has no relevance to your observation. If you want to tell us you were a sniper, just tell us - along with some good stories please! The fact is, I've been shooting probably a lot less years than you but... (in my honest opinion) after a year or so there is little difference between a generally competent shot. All members on here could hit a pound coin on a range at 100, 200 yards etc. Deer stalking is so very different.

 Now now lets not open that can of worms again .

Probably, buy my square yard of tweed will probably be worth more than a quid! .... Easier to hit on the range too!

will be my final post for a while, the ex sniper part was not willy waving on my part,it was merelyto show some knowledge on the subject,if you look at my intro you'll see i have been perfectly honest about returning to shooting after leaving the forces over 23yrs ago,i no longer shoot to the standard i was capable of back then as the stalkers i shoot with match and sometimes group better than i do but i listen and learn from them which is what i joined this for,i did'nt realise any posts were to be only of the backslaping variety and to the couple of members with the name calling from behind a computer screen, what would the colour of the gatehouse of hereford camp prove, that is the home of an sf regiment where as i carried out a role within my non sf regiment,so to sum up,any offence to gen stalkers was purely coincidentle and in no way intentional( i did point out in a my previous post that i talk in short and direct sentances)but to those who have read the posts as an insut to them personally i would say at least its got you thinking.

though in reality at any distance i can consistantly hit a clay pigeon will do, a pound coin is to risky ,what if i hit it ,no hope of finding it again, you lads must have money to throw away.

not really.... Unless you were there it is impossible for you to pass judgement on the outcome of any shot (unless we are looking at a photo of a gut shot deer or one with a leg or jaw missing!) from a photo. You don't know what the circumstances were or the intentions of the stalker at the time or the demands of the target... You don't know how it was presented... Would you say a photo of a beast with a smashed shoulder would be indicative of a poor shot? What if it was the intention to pin it... An entry wound relatively far back could actually indicate a quartering shot and the exit hole could be through the opposite shoulder... Actually a good shot!

Being a trained sniper (2 decades ago, or even if you were current) does not translate in any way shape or form onto the hill!

that comment is racist , insulting and factually incorrect, everyone knows a scots man could not be induced to leave a coin behind and definetly would not walk far enough away from the money to have enough room to swing the barrel round to shoot at it!
