does any one know how to fix a feed/lock up problem with a marlin 1894 44 magnum or knows a gun smith that deals with marlin lever action ?

Correct sizing of the brass and seating bullets deep enough is crucial with a lever action.
They with possible exception of the Browning BLR have no camming strength on chambering a round.
In other words the round has to drop in the chamber completely.
Is that happening with your marlin?

Have you had the rifle for a while?
When people first start using an underlever they work the action far too slow.
The work a LOT better the faster you cycle them.
No stopping mid Cycle!
Work it very fast.
If its hand loads your using as smellydog says, overall length has to be what's suits your rifle.

IIRC there's a special problem with 1894, that you should address before firing or cycling the gun. The more you cycle it, the worse the problem gets, and it's very difficult to sort out w/o replacing the part in question.

I had problems finding a link, but I think this is it. The part that wears out is carrier, but you really need to fix the lever (or it just wears down the new carrier also):

good afternoon ,the rifle put a loose round into the chamber but has a second one ready to follow so the lever locks up ,if i use a small wooded dowl and push the second round back into the magazine tube the lever closes and loads the first round as it should. i have stripped and cleaned everything and once reassembled the rifle cycled 10 44 special rounds with out problem ! i could not see any wear or broken parts so will give it another try next time i am at the range .if it jams again i will contact roger as i may need a new part but can not see any problems/broken parts. thank you for your replies .

Google marlin leaver jam!
I replaced the cartridge lifter on my .444 as I needed it to be 100% reliable as it is used on driven boar. Though there are other way of fixing it. Easy to do

Or how about an upgrade!
A Winchester 94!

Sintered cartridge lifter, scope fix failure and just damn ugly!!!

The “Marlin Jam” is where the snail cam on the lever wears a notch on the runway of the cartridge lifter which as it gets worse, locks the front edge of the dam into the notch, locking it open.

Easiest fix is to strip the rifle and gently radius the nose of the cam and, polish the notch out underneath the carrier with done Emory paper. It can take a bit of time when done slowly, but don’t be tempted to get the Dremel on it.

My lifter is is fine and nothing wares.
The scope is on just fine.
Accurate too.
Sleek lines with no pregnant fish belly of a fore end.
Each to their own I guess.

I had a Marlin once but got over it 😘

Bag of rattling stuff with cartridges too small for the design…

Winchester should have brought back the ‘92 than compromised the ‘94 design. Look at the success that Rossi and Chiappa made of reinventing the the ‘92.

And the Phoenix that came from the defunct Winchester doesn’t make the ‘94 in pistol calibers..

The Winchester 94 was never intended for pistol cases, the fact it could be adapted to use pistol cases was a triumph of the design.
Admittedly the Winchester in 357magnum had issues due the rim diameter just being to narrow.

The Marlin rifle length action as far as I know cannot cycle pistol length cartridges.
Marlin had to make a smaller action to use pistol cases.
I like the open compound action of the Win 94. No debris can build up and clog anything. It's strong too..

They are just a different way of achieving the same.

Hello, you can try Dave at Valkyrie rifles.
Dave was big into gallery rifles and an excellent gunsmith. I am sure he can help.

Out the .44 calibre lever actions. Which is a good one to go for? I always love the Marlin but there are lots of others out there.
