Mauser M12

i am considering replacing my Mauser M03 as I cannot easily find a replacement barrel in 6.5mm . Considering an option of Mauser M12. i would be pleased to hear comments re this rifle from current owners.

I can’t fault mine in .243. I’ve two T3 Tikkas and the Mauser feels better built. No more accurate I’m sure. They feel different, with a much tighter tolerance feel on bolt action. Three position safety is better. Nice crisp trigger. I’d buy another.

Same but have two M12s. No doubt as accurate as my tikka, but find the overall quality much better on the Mausers. The wing safety and magazine design really make the difference for me.

Probably will get a third in 6.5 at renewal time.

I have one as well. Pretty much what everyone else says. Accurate, well made, very very good trigger, good safety, faultless magazine feeding, extraction and ejection. You can have one in the chamber and 5 in the magazine.

Only faults I can find are that one of my ejectors is a bit rough, so it can mark up case heads despite the load not being over pressure. It is no issue but if you didn't know what you are looking for, you might think you have pressure issues. It also has dual ejectors, so it really does launch spent cases well. Which means I find myself hunting around a good 3 yards away look for costly Lapua brass ha ha ha. The other thing is I think mine has a tight chamber and/or bore as I need only minimum powder charge to realise my chosen velocity when I would normally expect to have 3-4 more grains of powder in there. No biggie, saves me a bit of powder I suppose.

Lastly they are interference fit barrels, so difficult to rebarrel if you ever shot one out. Mine is one of my deer rifles so it is not shot as much as some other rifles. I expect it will last many more years. Certainly I am not getting rid. Very easy rifle to shoot and live with.

I have one in .243. limited experience with other makes but I’m very happy with it. Well made, accurate, safety is excellent as others have said.

I would avoid the hexalok system. It was a few years back now but I recall they looked a bit pony to me and the place where I bought it also advised that a rail and rings were better in their view. I think it was recknagel from memory.

Anyway, that rail has never shifted and has been in place ever since. Then you have tons and tons of choices ring wise once the rail is on.

I like rings attached direct to receiver if the system is well designed (like the Schultz and Larsen slide and lock rings) but if I have doubts, I go for a rail.

There might be alternatives to the hexalock system but I am not au fait enough with them to advise.

Using ZEISS V4 scope on mine , Rail and Warne mounts on mine, no issues
