Completely agree, well said. Unless your an anti, shoot a blaser or worst, use a 270...
I would NEVER advocate that shot, that shot is down to personal choice and circumstance at the time., IF the coditions were different I would not have tried it , but I knew my data , I knew my DOPE for the scope and I have practiced that shot over 100times. My main fault these days is that I get more of a rush watching my guests shoot a deer than I am, and I have had to clean up wounded deer caused by guests at that similar ranges before but in the end whether I am the guide or the shooter it is my decision and my responsibility, I accept that wholeheartedly hence why I am not wanting this thread to be removed.Wasn't questioning your rifle only the range, it doesn't worry me what you shoot at whatever range and was only concerned for the Newbies reading such a thread thinking it was ok to take shots without knowing the possible outcome of such a shot, Like you said bad choice of wording.
Or even shot one!!I think some of the folk giving you a hard time over this may not even own a rifle

Like ive said , not challenging your ability to get the job done only you opening wording on this thread. My post on Instagram was never to prove I was a good shooter it was to prove the Sierra Prohunter is a fantastic bullet even at range.
I agree some of the wording should have been better chosen I admit to that . what was highlighted by the creator of this thread was NOT boasting although might have looked like it ,but, to my defence I was using language that was for a different forum and a different audience, on instagram only followers can see your posts unless you hashtag within the subject unfortunately it auto posted to my Facebook page before the OP reposted it here, However, in the OP's defence he does not know me from Adam although he started judgement over my instagram wording.Like ive said , not challenging your ability to get the job done only you opening wording on this thread.
I dunno my iron sights are fineMost have them mate ,just don’t know what the **** it does .
If I didnt keep that stag for my own freezer I wouldnt have even come across it , I was always not sure about the Prohunters as they are so cheap but on paper they were perfect and seem to kill everything it hits but seeing how the bullet looked after the shot was proof to me it was a good choice. With the new scope fitted I’ll certainly be pushing the boundaries a bit ,must look out for mushroomed bullets though .
Unfortunately that was me that dayI know if a few deer managers that shoot long range but only when they have a important cull?
Thought that may be what you were doing as you were discussing what happened to the bullet?Unfortunately that was me that day
Hi DaveI have read this entire thread and fair play to you saying it was you. You are clearly a good marksman and know your kit and what you are doing, I can happily say that you are a better shot than I am but I am always working to get better at any type of shooting with a rifle so I can be more confident and competent while out in the field. It is the responsibility of the person pulling the trigger to decide whether or not the shot is within their capability and there are so many factors involved for each individual shot I dont see how anyone can weigh in and attack someone for something that they don't know all the facts about. I have shot for long enough to know my own limits and will stick to them until I feel comfortable to do something different when I feel ready. I have noticed some members on here are somewhat hypocritical in making comments about not judging others when they were perfectly happy to judge me when I posted the results of trying something new to me and I was only shooting targets. I won't go any further and I won't judge anyone on their decisions, I have seen good and bad shooting in my time, it's not for us to judge.
Stay safe.
Dave
When you get a call from the forester saying that he is having to report deer damage which is extensive in a hard to reach area sometimes choices have to be made. stay safe hope you are keeping wellThought that may be what you were doing as you were discussing what happened to the bullet?
Like most if us the stalk is the main bit of fun the kill is only the end result stay safe regards Steve
That's interesting.A .270 130gr flying at 3000fps (normally around 3100fps although mine shoots at 2954 fps with and SD of 9) is more likely to go through soft tissue and do less damage at 100yrds than what it is at 300yrds , as the bullet slows down the more it will be likely to fragment or expand a faster bullet wont expand qucik enough hence the design of ballistic tips etc .
