The law regarding tail docking for working dogs in England involves micro chipping if the pup is offered for sale. Also any kc registered dogs going for health tests such as hips eyes or d.n.a must be chipped first. After 16th APRIL 2016 none of that matters anymore as all dogs over 8 weeks will or SHOULD !!!! be chipped. How that will be policed who knows but a trip to you're vets after that date with a un chipped dog will raise debate i bet before they discuss why you went there in the first place.
My advice for what its worth is contact you're vet to see if they are doing FREE chipping sessions , some councils were also involved with local vets to offer free m chipping, you never know there might be a promotion near you.
