Hi Guys and Gals,
i was thinking of going to the game fair. I've been for the last 20years and last year was a flop. Gun makers row none existent etc... anyone who has been can you give me a heads up.

I went today. I actually thought it was alright. Not a load of unrelated tat. Was only after a few bits and a bit of a walk around. One reason was to go and see the fortis stand to try on their smocks as I fancied one. I wasn't disappointed. Plenty of displays and demos of dogs, birds and ferrets. It felt 'right' perhaps some stalls were absent, no cartridges and not really much reloading stuff.

I phoned my mate this afternoon who was at the midland today, to see if it was worthwhile me going tomorrow. He said don't bother as it was even poorer than last year and just like Joe mentioned above it was almost impossible to buy a box of cartridges.

As I heard that Norman Clark wouldn't be there, I didn't bother. I'll use the road fuel collecting stuff from Ed when he comes south next.
What sort of prices can be found at Reloading Solutions?

Reading this thread I'm now really undecided whether to get up early and crack on, or give it a miss this year.. Anyone else got a view on today?

Last time I went was a couple of years ago, it was pretty poor in my opinion. I won't bother going again until it's reviews start to pick up....it could be some time...

I also went to the Midland today, don't think I will be back for a while, I found it generally pretty poor
very few rifle or shotgun manufacturers a few Gunshop's but really not that impressive
Blaser, Scott county, few clothing manufacturers after that lots of over priced cheap tat,
i was disappointed but maybe not surprised !
save your cash for the Shooting show ...

I don't know what I expected. I think part of what I enjoyed was the fact the Mrs wasn't there I haven't been for a couple of years the last time I went I was certainly able to get a variety of cartridges for my shotgun. Not this time. I wasn't disappointed personally. I really wish I needed another knife as there were quite a few I would have bought!

Thanks for your replies.
Well I'm up and going to give it a last try. I need a knife and a casual jacket.

I go religiously every year hoping next year will be better. It wasnt. Non of the big names, with the exception of blaser.. A real dissapointment...

I went on Saturday and had a good day with the family, we enjoyed it more that the Game Fair. However the game fair did have a better gunmakers row.

I think the internet, and forums like this, have nailed game fairs.

The have gone the same way as proper agricultural events, RAS, Smithfield etc.

I think people need to manage their expectations; the MGF is a late season fair where traders get rid of a lot of stock e.g. the Ridgeline stands. In addition there is something for a family day out. Expectations are higher since the advent of the internet and forums, a point well made. If there is a lack of support they will themselves collapse. If they are too focused there will not be the footfall for the stall holders. You can't please everyone. If you want to go to something that surpasses anything here then try the fair at Dortmund [Jagd & Hund] which is a specialist hunting fair, indoors and in a large exhibition centre rather like the NEC. There is a huge following and it's fantastic! Enough said, apart from it's about a tenner to get in!

Went for the weekend .

It has got a lot smaller , but still a very good fair .
The gun dog set up was very good & entered our own dog who done very well, there was a massive presence of police (firearm) & security probably due to a firearm being stolen a few years back , also it can get a bit lively in the camping ground at night !! overhaul will be back next year to support the show , if we all don't support these shows they wont last !!!.
