Moderator for a 6.5x55

Just posted my variation to get a 202 barrel in 6.5x55 and was wondering if anyone could recommend a moderator in 14/1 I think. I have a .308 moderator which I suppose would work but smaller is better right?
I am sure you can measure a difference but I can never hear it. 308 is a handy can as works on most stuff. I shoot a 243 through a 308 can at the moment

Agree but don’t agree that a moderator is enough. Ear damage occurs with a single shot from a moderated rifle and we should be encouraging everyone to wear ear protection and a moderator
Indeed, especially those with an avatar like yours!

Hold on! I'm not suggesting you go around without a moderator. I also wear defenders if I'm at the range or load developing. Anyone that doesn't is asking for hearing trouble. The OP was asking if his 308 mod would suffice on his 6.5. All I said was, for the odd shot out stalking you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between his 308 and a dedicated 6.5 mod. Obviously, there's going to be a difference but could you really tell? I'm not talking about different makes of mod, just the size of the hole that goes through the middle.

Yes, you said the OP wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. I am saying he almost certainly would, I’ve run a .308 mod on a 6.5x55, a dedicated .25 mod is quieter.

I’ve run a .25 mod on a 223 and the the same mod in .223, the smaller exit is quieter.

I’ve also run a .25 on a .257 calibre rifle and a .223, you’ve guessed it, the .223 mod is quieter

(Apologies for resurrecting an old thread)

I'd love to know what moderator you, or anyone else with the same rifle, settled on. I recently got the same (Sauer 202 6.5x55). It shoots well without moderator. When I added a Wildcat Evo in .308 that I already had, the grouping turned to absolute shite. Clearly this barrel doesn't like that mod.

I'd also be interested to know if you've shot any factory monolithics with good MOA (I'll be trying a few this coming weekend).

Hmmm.
As per my earlier post I used my .308 Utra on both .308 and 6.5x55SE then recently added a Stalon - again in .308 - it is noticeable quieter on both rifles…

My question is more specifically about the 6.5 SE barrel on the Sauer 202. Like you, I also reuse moderators (this one was on a 25-06, but now replaced there)

F&d mod the lightest I could get in the UTS range
