Monarch Roe or Sika sack

I will probably be buying a new Roe sack this week, one of the above.

I mostly shoot Roe but do also have a spot with Fallow. Do those of you with the Sika sack find it will take a Fallow and be manageable - obviously not large bucks but younger beasts? I know there are sleds and ways to drag but unfortunately that sort of thing is a struggle due to the terrain.

I like that both bags can fold in when not being used. Can the pockets still be filled if the bag is to be carried folded?

Will the Roe sack take a couple of Roe?

Are the waist belts still usable when the sack is filled, I generally have long walks out and having weight spread onto the hips is a big help.

Sorry for the long post. Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,
Dave

Ogdens (Phil) makes these...... I bought from him direct, got the Sika sack. Its huge. Well made with great quality fittings and stitching etc.... the pockets take lots of stuff whilst folded / unfolded. I used it the other day for 3 or 4 hours with it on my back and had not any problems, the wide shoulder straps spread the weight very well.

I have the original sika sack and ideal for two roe or one fallow doe or pricket. Lots of adjustment on straps to make load safe and easier to carry. Well made and washes clean

I have the sika sack and I have had a fallow doe in it. It carry’s deer well however the extraction can be a tad emotional with big deer!
It’s Very well made and you can get carried away with filling it up with all the bits and bobs that you usually leave in the truck as there are very large functional pockets. I must admit It swallows up muntjac and roe! The worst part is getting it from the floor to shoulder with a large deer, however once it’s on your back you can clip up all the straps, head down and get on with it.

I’m speaking from experience here don’t go nuts you pay for it for days afterwards aching in places you never knew you had!!!

I have the monarch roe sack and the quality is exceptional. I would definitely recommend. I also have an Ogden’s gamebag and again I would highly recommend based on quality. Roe sack is large -not had two in it though. I have no experience of the sika sack.

I can vouch for the sika sack, brilliant bit of kit.

Here are a few pics of a large fallow in it.

I have one of the Roe sacks from Monarch - works brilliantly and distributes load well, making it comfortable to carry whatever you put in it!
I use mine to cross clear fell with Roe onboard and I wouldn't be without it, makes it far easier.

The pockets on the outside of mine hold my gralloching kit and knives etc and will fold up fine.

@Dave RG I've got the monarch sika sack. It's very sturdy and well made. It's not rigid so doesn't transfer the weight to your hips very well and you end up with lots of weight on your shoulders. Also I'm 6'2" and with the shoulder straps adjusted comfortably the waist strap is too high up for me.

I always carry it when stalking and it's comfortable empty. You can carry a 15kg roe comfortably for a fair distance. I've had a 35kg Sika stag in it for 200-300m carry, and 2 sika hinds (35-45kg total weights) on a few occasions for up to half a mile carry., which isn't the most comfortable but better than dragging or getting blood all over yourself. I've had a 30kg yearling red hind in it too.

Monarch/Ogden roe sacks are superb and strong as an ox so would imagine that the sika sacks are equally as good. Please look after your backs and bodies though guys and girls. Trekking across rough, even and slippery terrain whilst carrying heavy weights is dangerous and especially with antlers sticking out of the sack. Just because you can get 70+kgs in the sack doesn't mean that you should! Even getting comms to some of the places we stalk in isn't easy. Getting an ambulance to them is all but impossible.

To the heroes of the piece, earmark this post ^^^ along with James's at #7, and look them up in ten/twenty years time. We use to make these, in fact we made the original sika sacks and roe sacks from the mid 1970’s onwards, and there are today a number of auld, bent mannies who used to use them for taking even staggies out of the restock, etc. As above, just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should - I wouldn't recommend anyone putting more than 45kilo on their backs, it’s not a great shorter- or longer-term idea, nor make for a comfortable dotage!

Happy to help with any enquiries, just pm.

Forum deal is supported with FOC Mora Companion Knife.

Thanks

ps - will have stock for the forthcoming Stafford Stalking Show, but may be wise to place show order to collect at show as demand will be high.
